What High Schools Use A Soccer Player As Their Kicker?

Featured Replies

You got part of what I am talking about. Would be interested to see what team would win the kicking battle in that game. Highlands does not attempt field goals in games, but from what I have been told their kicker has been good from 60 on several occasions in warmups. Interest from a few D-1's as well, but nothing more than letters at this point in time.

It is hard for teams to offer scholarships to specialists in my opinion. One must be a ringer to get one extended to them early on. The majority of the time teams will extend preferred status to those players and dig in for academic money to lure them on campus. If a team has an extra scholarship on hand and are in dire need of a specialist after they loaded up on position players, then they will probably throw it on the table. The best I've personally witnessed from Tyler was a 65 yarder off of a tripod stand. Totally different than an actual in game attempt but still quite a feat.

In all honesty, I would love to see a kicking battle between these two kickers this season. It will mean that we were able to get over CCH hump we are enduring and the game with Highlands is close. We're fortunate with our current district alignment that we've had comfortable margins to work on this aspect of the game that many never really get the chance to do.

I am surprised that he is still eligible.

He looks young for his age.

Pretty sure 2013 Cov Cath grad Adam Goddard played soccer and was the kicker his senior year.

Caldwell County's kicker also plays soccer.

Caldwell has three kickers who are also on the soccer team — Chris Logsdon, Conner McEnaney and Boyce Nichols.

He looks young for his age.

Could be some sort of leap year loop hole if he happened to be born on Feb 29.

Still takes time and dedication to be a successful kicker. Time that many soccer players or even soccer coaches don't want to give up.

The Huddle Boys at East Carter have been very solid kickers over the last few years. However, they have spent a ton of time kicking.

A sample day last year would be Evan attended football practice and kicking for 30 minutes or so. Then he'd have to go to soccer practice. Or he'd have soccer practice and then finish up at football practice.

Many players don't have that kind of dedication to do both sports right.

I think you're right Cats. I must be impatient or expect too much and would kind of expect that at schools that may struggle with going to practice everyday, but I guess my armchair quaterbacking would think that since BG has had pretty good success in the past little bit that kids would want to come in and work to fill this need. Maybe I expect too much :idunno::idunno:

The real question should be who uses soccer style kickers and who uses the old straight ahead style. With youth soccer so popular in the USA the majority of the kids have played soccer at one time. The 3 local schools here breakdown to 1 soccer player and 2 that aren't playing high school soccer but kick soccer-style

I think the question should be restated "Who DOESN'T?"

The question came about after watching Covington Catholic. I'm pretty sure they do not have a soccer player kicking despite their relatively good soccer team. They have had opportunities this year to kick FGs that it appears they passed on due to not having a kicker with a big leg.

Corbin uses a soccer player, actually 2 soccer player brothers have shared kicking duties this year.

Pretty sure Mason County's PK is a soccer player. I know he was at one time.

One year at the Showcase games at UC's Nippert Stadium Boone County scored but their kicker was not there yet because of a soccer game. So they went for 2. Then in the second quarter he literally ran down the steps thru the crowd in uniform and hopped over the railing to join his team on the sidelines.

Pulaski's kicker also plays soccer and is getting some interest from colleges.

Gallatin County's placekicker in 2013 was a soccer player. I believe he missed only one extra point all season.

How many kids want to devote all their time to two sports at once? Have you ever went to football practice and then had a soccer game? Unfortunately, when you have a soccer player as a kicker many think of themselves as soccer players first.

I don't know the dynamics of BG, from the soccer schedule to the dynamic between the coaches of the two sports but from experience I do know that it is work. And that is from a school in which the coaches worked together and wanted those kids to play both sports.

All I'm saying is that it takes a kid that actually wants to kick. Just getting a soccer player doesn't accomplish much. Kids have to be coached to kick a football, whether the team has a coach that can do it well or the kid will get coaching from outside sources such as camps or local kicking coaches.

It's easy to second guess from the armchair position, but just adding a soccer player will not provide a team with a good kicker. Its not automatic, especially if you want the full arsenal of FG/EP, Punting, and Kickoffs. Kicking is alot of natural ability, but more than that it is a skill that has to be worked on and practiced, especially if you want more than an extra point kicker. If that's all you want a kid on the team can learn to do that in most circumstances.

Is it more like what soccer teams use a football kicker for their team?
