I am surprised that he is still eligible.

I actually thought this was becoming a lot more common nowadays. I haven't followed as closely the last few years like I had in the past, but I thought most teams were using a soccer player.

 

On a side note, I've noticed a lot of high school soccer games on Friday nights this year at T&C.

They may have been all JV and freshman. I know I'd get down there at 5 and 2 games were being played, and when I'd leave 2 new games were starting.

No, actually you are wrong. They sent a scout out to Johnson Central this past February to film and record his kicking times. He has never attended a Ray Guy camp. They heard about him after he hit the 58 yard kick and requested info. Tyler was 5-6 last year from 50+ yards. Currently he is receiving interest from about 12-15 D1 schools. Stanford, Louisville and Mizzou to just name a few. He has all of this season and next season to improve his game before college. Last year was his first year ever kicking a football, pretty good start and hopefully it can take him places he never once dreamed of before.

 

Yeah, I know what you mean. We have done it three times before and hopefully if we get to that point in the season to play them again, our record all-time will move back above .500. I'm sure CCH fans were saying the same after we took a 3-1 lead in the series against them until they beat us these past two seasons. Teams go through ups and downs as far as talent is concerned. High school kids are natorious for that.

This is my biggest aingst with BG as their kicking game has been suspect for some time now. I believe BG went to the Final 4 in the HS soccer playoffs last year and has a chance to be really good and go far this year. And I also understand that just because you're on the soccer team doesn't mean you can hit 50-yard field goals all day long, but I'm just talking about getting the kickoff into the endzone and hitting the XP very consistently.

Still takes time and dedication to be a successful kicker. Time that many soccer players or even soccer coaches don't want to give up.

 

The Huddle Boys at East Carter have been very solid kickers over the last few years. However, they have spent a ton of time kicking.

 

A sample day last year would be Evan attended football practice and kicking for 30 minutes or so. Then he'd have to go to soccer practice. Or he'd have soccer practice and then finish up at football practice.

 

Many players don't have that kind of dedication to do both sports right.

You got part of what I am talking about. Would be interested to see what team would win the kicking battle in that game. Highlands does not attempt field goals in games, but from what I have been told their kicker has been good from 60 on several occasions in warmups. Interest from a few D-1's as well, but nothing more than letters at this point in time.
