Miami Columbus (FL) 38 Highlands 34

Featured Replies

I am interested in knowing how Highlands was able to come back in the game. From the update thread and a little of listening online it sounded as if the Birds were being dominated by a superior football team but in the end they almost won.

Anyone?

Columbus should have won by 3 tds if not for their unforced turnovers. HHS scored 3 tds in the 4th quarter when Columbus started mixing in second string players so everyone could play. Columbus was better on both sides of the ball and special teams. Columbus was the better team by far, don't let the score fool you.

Good comeback

Birds Defense came alive in the second half couple pics and a fumble recovery. Hoge was limping the whole game but came back after a couple poor series by the offense in the second half.

That's what I was thinking until the score popped up.

Good game by the 'Birds. They will learn from this loss and get better.

28-7 at half and thought it was going to get out of hand. Highlands outscored CC 27-10 in the second half.

What was the turnover count for each team?

Were you there? Just decided to join BGP to throw that out there. Welcome aboard.

How do you know they were mixing in their 2's?

Why do you even bother? We've seen his kind before.

The better team won. The Birds were sloppy in the 1st half. I believe they had 6 false start penalties? Those killed a few drives. Hoge had a great game, but did miss several series due to (looked like an ankle injury). HHS spread the ball around quite a bit in the 2nd half.

Highlands played well in the 2nd half on both sides of the ball. Great game against a solid team. These games help a ton. Highlands is a lot better than they were at the beginning of the season. Should be fun to watch the rest of the season.

In no way did Columbus start shifting in there second string. The birds just regrouped the second half and made a game out of this. If it was not for the kick off returned for a touchdown the birds would have one this game. These kids are very resilient and do not give up until the last whistle is blown. Just like the Bryan station game. Columbus is an excellent team and played a great game.

Ridiculous comment about CC mixing in the 2's allowed the comeback.

What a fun game against a well coached, big strong group from Florida. Mix in a few athletes on the perimeter and this was a solid opponent for the Birds. QB throws a nice ball and they execute the playbook.

When Hoge creates HHS is a VERY good offensive team. He has weapons all over the place. It was by far Beau's best game and as others have said, he has a nagging foot injury that he is fighting through.

That's what I was thinking until the score popped up.

No clueless. Was no mixing of anything. They were good and i would venture to say put a running clock on all of nky

Guess weather really didn't have an impact on them. Sorry for wasting people's time on that one.

51 Seniors on Christopher Columbus. They weren't mixing anything!

Just got back from the game so GURU, here is my take. Regarding the comment about CC mixing in 2nd teamers, that is completely false. Anyone who was there knows better. CC was the better team. They are big, fast and have very good skilled position players. They appeared to be well coached too. In watching the two teams warm up before the game, I thought it would be a long game for HHS - CC definitely passed the "eye test".

For HHS to beat CC, they had to play a near perfect game...and they did not. HHS had numerous false start penalties, some at critical times and allowed a kickoff return for a TD. The first half was basically a nightmare for HHS. Hoge was injured on the second offensive play of the game for HHS and was hobbled the rest of the game. It looked like he was done at halftime but after a series with the backup QB, he returned and was a warrior. With the offensive line struggling, he kept a bunch of plays alive with his feet and made some great throws to lead the comeback.

The defense played "bend but don't break" all day long and tried to make CC have long drives to score. In the first half, CC fumbled multiple times but was able to recover them. In the second half, HHS recovered a couple of them which contributed to the comeback. HHS also recovered one on side kick. Again, CC was the better team. Reminded me of a GCL team with maybe a little more team speed. I am proud of HHS for never quitting and making the game very interesting at the end. Hope both teams have good whirlpools as both teams had quite a few guys nicked up.

A final thought: HHS will be in real trouble if Hoge gets hurt...offensive is just not even close to as good when he is out.

Have no idea what you were watching but there were no subs put in during the 4th quarter. None.
