Safe to say that 1A just got considerably more interesting after tonight's games.

 

No doubt.

Don't sleep on Russellville. They have made a tweak here and there and have the athletes to compete with Mayfield.

Pikeville is not # 2 yet. It's a solid win to say the least. Pikeville has played 4 games at home. They finally have an away game that should be competirive. But they have beat several solid teams. They also should end the season undefeated unless Russell or Middlesboro beat them..

Ppl was just saying Williamsburg was #2 or #1 now? It looks like 5 very good teams at the top of 1a. Should be some good playoffs this yr.

There really is no debate on this IMO ... Mayfield is #1. The good news for 1A is it looks like it is more than a 2 or 3 team division this year. After Mayfield, it is now a pick'em between several teams - Frankfort, Beechwood, Pikeville, Williamsburg, Raceland, Hazard.

WOW. Everyone take a breath....I dont think that you can give Pikeville the trophy yet. Mayfield won last night by three (3) touchdowns with a lackluster offensive performance and shut out a top back in WKY from the endzone. From what I have seen, east side of the state doesnt play the competion the Mayfield does and that has shown that the last two years at WKU. One win doesnt make a school in the discussion in the top spot in

1A in any way shape or form unless they consistently have those caliber wins and play that caliber competition (ala Mayfield) all year long.

That would take some luster off of the win for Pikeville, IMO

Please don't discredit anything on Pikeville's side this was a tremendous game by them.

 

Belfry had a starting RB transfer this week. The next two RBs, the FB and the QB spent some time off the field with injuries but came back. The important part to remember is it wouldn't have made a difference.

 

Belfry got whipped so bad on the line of scrimmage that backfield personnel was irrelevant.

Joplin kid who moved to Belfry this summer with his dad decided to move back to WV with his mom.

They also lost there starting RB to a broken collarbone..

I think the main separator amongst all theses teams is defense and I believe Mayfield has the best overall defense in class 1A.
