Is Bowling Green Now the Kentucky Football Flag Ship?

Featured Replies

After Bowling Green has amassed 47 consecutive wins, in route to what looks to be setting a new record for consecutive wins, has the Purples become THE Kentucky Football Flag Ship?

Four more wins will put Bowling Green at 51 consecutive wins, passing Trinity (50, 1988-1991) as the record holder. Those 47 wins have not all be easy though three sets of five playoff games in route to three consecutive State Championships. In the time frame from the Purples last loss (November 12th 2010) to last night, Bowling Green has beaten St. Xavier four times, Lexington Catholic four times and John Hardin twice. The Purples have an all time record of 643-328-35 from 1922-2014.

Is there any current program in the state of Kentucky that is on a better run the Bowling Green? Is there any team that can challenge the Purples for State superiority in the last three years? Has Bowling Green proven they are the team to beat in Kentucky?

They have an impressive streak. But zero wins against Highlands or Trinity during that streak. The streak started after those road blocks were removed. Could Bowling Green have beaten them too? Maybe some years, but no way they beat either of them in 2011.

If we are going to look at the last three years and add this year in, I like Trinity over Bowling Green but Bowling Green has been ultra impressive.

Look at the quality of T's wins during their streak...BG's wins demolish that. Blackman last year was better than any Highlands team has been from 2011 to now...complete with better players at about every position. I agree that the 2011 T team was considerably better than the 2011 BG team simply by talent alone.

BG would have crushed Trinity last year. Those two teams are not even in the same league. 2011 & 2012, I give the edge to Trinity.

BG will have to beat a very fast McCallie in order to beat the record (do not want to overlook Owensboro). It will be toughest game of year for Purples. I will be bold and probably a little cocky but if you are going to beat Purples you better do it in the next couple of years. I am predicting that this years 8th grade team could make a very similar run when they get their chance. I don't see anyone beating them. I hate to talk about younger kids but they have a seventh grader playing on 8th grade team that will be unstoppable.

All that to say, we have a real chance for a handful of championship rings in the next 6 years. May lose a game or two along the way but stopping them in playoffs will be tough.

Bowling Green would go 5-5 playing Trinity's schedule. Bowling Green had exactly 0 state titles in 5A when Highlands was in 5A with them. I think the 5A titles will mysteriously end for Bowling Green when Highlands returns to 5A.

In my humble opinion Trinity is still the bell cow of high school football in KY but BG is impressive and has done a great job

Even over three years I still like T but would have no issue with BG. The deciding factor to me is that I believe T would have dominated in 11 and 12 which pushes me that way.

BG is 1-1 against Highlands in Championship games.

I agree that the 2011 Highlands would have been a tall order for BG to beat but I have a hard time picking the 2012 Highlands team against the Purples and the 2013 team wasn't within 21 points of that version of the Purples. This year, who knows. But I will venture to say that the Purples may be a bit more concerned with Cov. Cath than Highlands in the coming years.

Now you've gone and done it.:sssh:

Their winning streak started when they stopped playing Trinity. Tells me all I need to know.

Mcpapa, nah, we know foolishness when we read it.

Heard the same things about Boyle when they won 47 in a row. If it was easy to win that many in a row, a lot of teams would have done it. They haven't.
