Why can they not be? The thread is about the flagship team in KY is it not? Male is a KY team building momentum and can argue they should be in the discussion. At the moment, they may be the best in their class and have an argument as the best in state. Scott Co may have something to say about that also. As I said earlier, the flagship title is probably in a state of Limbo at the moment.

These last couple of posts are the cruxt of the arguement. The term Flagship has the connotation of being lasting and over a long period of time, but thats not what this threat is about. The way I read it, this thread is about current Best Team in the State the past 3 years. Is that the Flagship definition:idunno:

 

T and H fans get upset with anyone taking a run up the mountain at my longterm definition of Flagship and I dont blame them. 22 state championships is the marks by which others are judged in the longterm Flagship definition.

 

Over the past 3 seasons though, no one has been better than BG. Undefeated, 3 state championships.

Did BG say no to playing T? I think yes they said no or said nothing. From that point taking your emotions out of it BG is the better team over this small time frame not forever.

 

For me, T is the flagship school for the state, but not these last 3 years of the T streak. They like it more than we do so might as well name it after them.

Sure they did...who wouldn't be scared of 6-6 team who got bounced in the 2nd round of the playoffs?

 

I bet BG regrets not taking the call to play T last year since that was probably the best shot to knock off Trinity in years. Too early to know about this year. When T and X play in a few weeks.

I'm trying to get a handle on what someone is defining as "flagship". Is it a definition of who the best team is regardless of class? The team that someone would point to as the preeminent in Kentucky football if describing to someone out of state? The best over a recent period of 5 years? I feel like we're seeing some uneven definitions of what we're talking about.

 

I personally felt BG was the best team in the state regardless of class last year. This year there'd be some teams I'd like to see them play to know that. They're damn good again of course. Their D might be the best in the state.

flagship. a ship carrying the flag officer or the commander of a fleet, squadron, or the like, and displaying the officer's flag. any of the best or largest ships or airplanes operated by a passenger line.

 

I used Flagship in the context of: The current premier program, the program that is carrying the Kentucky High School Football Flag. The program that everyone in state is currently following. The program that is on every die hard football fan's mind.

 

Given the interest in "The Streak", the comparisons to other great in-state programs like: Trinity, St. Xavier, Highlands and Male it would seem that everyone is comparing Bowling Green to the Greats. Highlands had a great streak, Trinity had a great streak. And, both were Flag Ships in the state, the teams that everyone knew about. But, currently I would argue Bowling Green is now that program that is leading all others.

Heard the same things about Boyle when they won 47 in a row. If it was easy to win that many in a row, a lot of teams would have done it. They haven't.

They are more like a destroyer that has done a more than admirable job while the flagship goes into port to have it's hull cleaned.

Look at the quality of T's wins during their streak...BG's wins demolish that. Blackman last year was better than any Highlands team has been from 2011 to now...complete with better players at about every position. I agree that the 2011 T team was considerably better than the 2011 BG team simply by talent alone.

 

BG would have crushed Trinity last year. Those two teams are not even in the same league. 2011 & 2012, I give the edge to Trinity.

 

 

You have got to be a young guy. Boone County was in it's heyday back then and T beat them 3 times in a row. Warren Central was pretty dang good. St. X was St. X and I believe Bob Redmen was still at Waggener or Ballard. In no way, shape, or form do BG's wins "demolish" T's during our streak.
