You have got to be a young guy. Boone County was in it's heyday back then and T beat them 3 times in a row. Warren Central was pretty dang good. St. X was St. X and I believe Bob Redmen was still at Waggener or Ballard. In no way, shape, or form do BG's wins "demolish" T's during our streak.

 

You must be an "old guy" who has a green tinted view of things...you just threw out at BG:

Waggener - 2 first round losses and a 2nd round loss during the streak years - OR - Ballard, didn't make the playoffs for any of the three years of the streak

St. X - A 2nd round loss, a 3rd round loss, and a failure to make the playoffs.

and Warren Central - Excellent teams, quality wins.

 

In comparison, I throw back from BG

Lex Cath (4 times) - three 4th round losses to Highlands

Blackman - TN Large Class State Runner's Up

St. X (4 times) - two 3rd round losses and a 2nd round loss last year

Warren Central (5 times) - three 3rd round losses

John Hardin (3 times) - three 4th round losses

McCallie - 2nd round loss in TN's DII

 

Not to mention, the secondary games of

I didn't know that BG has defeated Lexington Catholic and St. X 4 times apiece during the streak. John Hardin 3 times. Warren Central 5 times. Nice. I like it.

Look at the post before your last one. I left off several great teams that T beat.

 

You said "demolished". That's my beef with your post. You obviously weren't around for that time frame so you have no idea how good those teams were that T beat. If you were then you're bias is showing stronger than any T fan in here.

I remember when I lived in BG in the late 80s and the folks from BGHS being so sure that WC would beat T in the state championship(s). Not really close. Those who know me know that I am a still a BG fan (seems like yesterday Cannon Simpson was draining 3s for his dad in the gym!), but if BG & T met every year for the past 25 years BG would be about 3-22. But arguably the only other teams in KY that could post a better record than that are X & H & HHS (and H & HHS would not be more than a game or 2 better). X had a strong mid 90s run, but they are still (I'm guessing) 5 games under .500 over the last 25 years? Yes BG has beaten X the last 4 years, but T has not lost to the Tigers since '09 (I think).

Having said that I really do not think you can compare streaks from two different generations very effectively anyway.

I would seriously like to see BG win out this year. Then go 15-0 again next year... why not? Enjoy the streak and don't worry how it does or doesn't compare to guys who played when your parents were freshmen in high school.

And as much as I loved it when T played BG for a few years (and won every contest, even when T had to use its #4 QB at BG), I am thinking there will be no talk of reviving that series until BG notches a loss.

For all those T fans so stuck in the past and refuse to wake up in the 21st century, I just want to remind you that the Cold War is over.

If you were making a HS football map of the USA, and you could only put 1 team logo on the map from each state, for KY it would be Highlands or Trinity, just like for Ohio it would be Moeller, and Indiana it would be Warren Central, Alabama it would be Hoover, and Florida it would be St. Thomas Aquinas.

Trinity I could see because they play basically a national type schedule year after year, but Higlands? Not quite. They'd have to be at lease considered best in the state at one time or another before putting them up as the states representative.

T can say BG refused, but when administration treat a team like they are not worthy of being on your campus then why play them.

 

When BG played X in 2011, there was no section marked off in their gym or people standing at the doors to monitor the team. The administration and staff at X treated the BG team like a first class program that it is.

 

That is why BG doesn't play T. It may sound silly, or childish, but treated teams the way you wanted to be treated and maybe they will want to play you when you call them.

 

Back to the topic at hand...the run BG has been on the past 3+ years is incredible. But to me the word "flagship" is more than just a 3 year span. At the end of the day, T is the flagship program in KY with BG 2nd. But BG is the best team the last 3 years in the state.
