Concealed carry permits soar across Kentucky

Featured Replies

I think you will have to take it again. One of our deputies is an instructor. I'll find out and let you know PP92.

My wife deals with these daily at the Sheriffs office and said there wasn't an expiration on them...they had sent some old ones in before and a license was issued.

I'm guessing you don't support guns and people carrying them, or am I taking your comments wrong?

I'm all for second amendment rights. I just don't see this "need", and I don't think owning a gun solves the issues people believe it does. I believe that certain things like mandatory recertification in safety should be in place, and I feel that "accidental" shootings by children and/or of children should be a mandatory charge of negligence of some sort.

So your OK with people owning guns just not carrying them?

Mandatory charges for any crime are not wise. Charges when warranted, should be filed anytime there is negligence.

Thanks fellas. I'd love to know. I've been bullcrapping on getting that permit. I don't have a gun yet so that plays a part but I hope to purchase my first one within a year.

You don't see the need for Americans to lawfully carry firearms concealed? Did you know that the movie theater James Holmes went to in CO, was the only theater within 20 miles of his apartment that banned guns? Coincidence? I call it sitting ducks, Americans should always have the right to protect themselves.

Just call the Boyle Co. Sheriff Office. They can tell you for sure.

You can borrow one of mine to practice and take your test with.

I agree in part. I also believe in the 2nd amendment and you shouldn't have to pay a governmental levy to be licensed to carry one concealed. I think everyone should be allowed without financial constraint to carry it on your person concealed or otherwise.

No, I don't. But that does not mean that I feel no one should be allowed to carry a gun. Nor am I looking for legislation that makes it so. All I'm looking for is a heightened level of responsible gun ownership. And I absolutely think that irresponsible gun ownership that results in the injury to kids or by a kid should be automatically charged as negligence of some sort, the degree may vary, but there's absolutely no excuse that a child has access to a loaded gun without supervision.

What makes you think that those that conceal carry are irresponsible?

I don't know any gun owner personally that thinks a child should have access to a loaded gun without supervision.

Irresponsible gun owners?

350,000,000 legally owned firearms in the US...approximately 590(in 2011) accidental deaths...of those 102 were under 18 years old and of those 51 were under 13. All Tragic, but far less than dangerous than many would assume.

6,000 deaths from falling at home

5,000 deaths from accidental poisoning

3,000 deaths from home fires and burns

1,000 deaths from choking

800 deaths from drownings at home

I would not consider myself a "gun" person per se, and I am not a hunter. However, I did have training in an earlier career, and I do like to target shoot on occasion. I bought a handgun, and I attended the CCDW training (and passed:-). My first comment would be that anyone who owns a gun should take this training. At least my takeaway from training is that I am a lot LESS likely to carry a weapon, and/or even discharge it except in target shooting or maybe the most remote life-threatening in-home invasion. The class clearly outlines ALL the potentials risks of carrying and brandishing deadly force in various situations. Of course, as news events will attest, knowledge is not always equally exercised. The focus on safety is very high, and that is very useful for any gun owner.

Should drownings in pools result in automatic charges? Those type of deaths are more common, just don't get front page media so it seems like they are less so.

I will be getting mine soon as well.

Weird, I was told the state was getting caught up and the wait was not too bad. Seems like you have been waiting a long while.

I didn't take the test a few months ago when I had planned on it. Something came up and I wasn't able to make it to the class.
