Consider this from Michael Graham's article:

Last year, Campbell County Head Coach Stephen Lickert said the Camels would continue to play the Bluebirds and he hopes to beat them at some point.

Friday’s 23-16 Highlands win marked the closest Campbell County has come to beating Highlands in the Bluebird 13-game winning streak in the series dating back to 1991. That’s when the Camels last beat the Bluebirds, 12-6. Highlands leads the all-time series, 52-9.

Prior to last year, Highlands and Campbell County last played in 2004. The teams met on an annual basis between 1995 and 2004. The Bluebirds won all 10 meetings. Highlands finished 11-0 against Campbell County in Dale Mueller’s 20-year tenure as head coach including a 50-8 verdict last year.

If the Camel loss to Highlands isn't a moral victory, I don't know what qualifies for a moral victory.

Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? Why?

Ls an L. Especially at home. Especially when enrollment is way larger.

Definitely a moral victory. They are doing nice things out there and closing the gap.

Something to build on, sure, but a victory means you won the game.

There is no such thing as a "Moral Victory".

I would venture to say when Coach Lickert was in private in his office after the post game talk, he had a big smile on his face.

By definition it was...

From Merriam-Webster

Full Definition of MORAL VICTORY

: an actual defeat regarded as a virtual victory because of the narrowness of the margin or because of some circumstance that gives satisfaction or hope

Disagree. Campbell hasn't been worthy of playing Highlands in 20 years. They now have a confidence boost that will pay dividends for the remainder of the year.

I agree with many teams, there are no moral victories, but this should give CCHS the proof that they can play with anyone.

I would think he was probably in there questioning his first half game plan, had he ground and pounded with the QB keeper like he did in the second half he might have had a chance at a Victory. I say no moral Victory, that team is good and should expect to win some of these games vs hanging their hat on coming close. If I'm coach I don't even mention moral victory to the players.

It's a miracle, we finally agree on something. :thumb:

Half the battle in beating the Highlands and Trinity's of the world is convincing yourself you can beat them. Moral Victory for sure.

Lets wait and see how it turns out in district play.

No moral victories in my book. You can say we played really well and learned some things and should be competitive all season. like them taking on the big guys and seeing where you stand.

Of course it is. Without question.

Look at the wording of the definition. The scoreboard should be the picture next to the definition.

Personally I think the way the game played out probably prevents it from feeling more like a moral victory than it would otherwise. Highlands was up so much early that even though it got to within a touchdown it never raelly felt in doubt.

Highlands scored 23 total points...in what way is that ever "up so much early"?

...and at what point do Highlands people start looking at last year and now this game and questioning the play of their team when they get an early lead?
