Hey JS! Haven't heard from you in a while. If you come to the Hallowed Ground Friday, by all means look for Mrs PH and me. We are in a roped off area next to the cheerleaders and in front of the Bleacher Bums. I will be wearing "The Lucky Jersey", my genuine gold #57 jersey I wore the night we first beat Paducah Tilghman back in my senior year, 1976. You will be welcome in the area! I'm hoping that Oxnard shows as well...we have - thann't seen him in a while! St X fans are great, and I hope that many fans come down for the game!

BGHS has made unreal improvement since their scrimmage with Manual, who admittedly returned a huge amount of their starters from last year. The whole game defensively against Mercer Co, they were dominant, holding them to minus three yards rushing and less than 40 yards total offense. The team was very opportunistic against LexCath and made them pay for their mistakes. Senior leadership has grown exponentially in three weeks on both sides of the ball. Campbell Gott, QB, played a near flawless game against LexCath. On the other side of the ball, Ben Holt represents a huge problem for any defense. Too quick for offensive linemen when he lines up at DE. Way too strong for a back to block at OLB unless the blocker is a 240 lb bowling ball rolling downhill!! The whole defensive front is deep and experienced. If Holt gets loose in the backfield, your QB had better be extremely mobile! Tre Boards made two big interceptions against LexCath to kill drives. Do you have a DB who can jump as high as Cameron Wallace?

 

On the other side, the Tigers are always huge and physical. They flat wear you down. In the second Rafferty's bowl they played against us, they rendered seven starters unable to play in our next game because they just were so darn strong!! They are traditionally strong on special teams and cover kicks and punts extremely well. They always have a smart coaching staff who can make adjustments on the fly. There's also the St X tradition...it isn't just a commodity for the football team, it is instilled into everything they do...it's what they're about, and that's very admirable! They also are challenged almost weekly with a tough schedule and play in the Super District. Factory for mobile, tough linebackers.

 

I think that the Purples will need to keep being opportunistic and keep their cohesiveness on offense growing. Easily Gott's biggest game to date...he's going to have to come through again. The running game will have to make Gott more effective. Defense will have to get to the QB often...no surprises in the air. Either way, it's going to be a tight game, and I give the edge to the Purples because they're sooooo tough to beat at Donaldson Stadium/Beard Field!

 

Hey PH - thanks for the shout out. Been "hibernating" all winter/spring. glad to be back - glad f-ball is back. I have followed the Rocks down there and know how tuff it is to win there and what a great environment

I made a mistake last week in doubting the, and I believe this to be sound advice.

I look for X to play a very inspired game and to come out on top. X taking the defeat at the hands of BG for three years in a row is enough!!!! Tigers will end the streak and win "comfortably" . . . Special Teams will be Special this week for the Tigers....

There will be no comfort for X on Friday. They will actually get stomped, which is far from comfortable.

Easy Black Jack, stomped is a big word. While this a good BG team, it is not the team from last year so it is hard for to envision BG stomping X.

I think that St X stops the streak. 28-21.

I hope BG wins to keep the streak going, but this was the first game in the schedule I thought would really test them this year.

 

I can't make a prediction but just say I hope BG wins.

I find it disappointing and comical at how many times X ran the ball this past week opposed to the rate at which they ran last year when they better suited to do so. Also no slight to anyone on this current team because they're all talented.

I think that goes with the learning curve of the offensive staff. But that is for a whole different thread.

I think the staff learned some big lessons from last season. Just trying to differentiate yourself from your predecessor isn't that useful if your team is built for that style of ball. I would honestly not have been surprised if X had won state last year with Glaser at the helm.

If Glaser was at the helm last year vs BG its a totally different game. Charles Walker only touched it a few times outside of his kickoff returns and BG had trouble tackling him.

While BG's defense is very good, Walker found success for three years against them. The big issue, especially in the 2012 matchup was that BG knew he was getting the ball pretty much every time and the Purples just sent blitz after blitz at the Tigers.
