Lots of people around state did not think the Purples would be 2-0 going into this game. Can they make it to 3-0? Let's hear your thoughts and predictions.

Saw both teams last night. Teams are physically similar on both sides of the ball. But I have to give Purples edge since they had far fewer mistakes and more diverse offense that was effective. X had to rely mostly on running game and had lots of problems going down field over the air.

It looks like any projections of BGs demise were greatly exaggerated.

28 - 21 BG

In 2011 BG controlled the LOS which carried them to the victory. 2012, in my opinion is the one that got away from the Tigers. Heading into halftime I believe they held a 9 point score, but X lost their starting QB right before halftime and become extremely one dimensional on offense. 2013 BG was the better team and better prepared. The key for X will be their QB play. If Noah Houk can make plays through the passing game it will cause the Purples defense to not blitz as much. This is a big IF based off the play against Bryan Station.

I'll take BG 8-7. Go for 2 and get it to win the game.

Pride, your 8-7 scores have me laughing quite a bit lately. I like it. Well done.

This game between St Xavier & The Purples will tell the tale for both teams. I always want X to do well but BG has the hot streak going (and have they gotten any notice for it outside of Kentucky??). I wish Trinity & BG could resume their series. BG fans are the best.

St. X may get the Win but I watched game against Bryan Station last night and I saw what seemed to be a pattern from last years team. Questionable Play Calling. Ill admit I am an armchair coach but on a 4down and long 3 they try qb sneak in redone. Two or three other headscratchers for me as well. I'm still not sold on their coach. Again, just my opinion. None the less, they are still St. X. If BG offense can minimize mistakes ( I think they will), Purples win

Purples 26

X 21

The Purples seem to have had X's number in the recent past.

Hey JS! Haven't heard from you in a while. If you come to the Hallowed Ground Friday, by all means look for Mrs PH and me. We are in a roped off area next to the cheerleaders and in front of the Bleacher Bums. I will be wearing "The Lucky Jersey", my genuine gold #57 jersey I wore the night we first beat Paducah Tilghman back in my senior year, 1976. You will be welcome in the area! I'm hoping that Oxnard shows as well...we haven't seen him in a while! St X fans are great, and I hope that many fans come down for the game!

BGHS has made unreal improvement since their scrimmage with Manual, who admittedly returned a huge amount of their starters from last year. The whole game defensively against Mercer Co, they were dominant, holding them to minus three yards rushing and less than 40 yards total offense. The team was very opportunistic against LexCath and made them pay for their mistakes. Senior leadership has grown exponentially in three weeks on both sides of the ball. Campbell Gott, QB, played a near flawless game against LexCath. On the other side of the ball, Ben Holt represents a huge problem for any defense. Too quick for offensive linemen when he lines up at DE. Way too strong for a back to block at OLB unless the blocker is a 240 lb bowling ball rolling downhill!! The whole defensive front is deep and experienced. If Holt gets loose in the backfield, your QB had better be extremely mobile! Tre Boards made two big interceptions against LexCath to kill drives. Do you have a DB who can jump as high as Cameron Wallace?

On the other side, the Tigers are always huge and physical. They flat wear you down. In the second Rafferty's bowl they played against us, they rendered seven starters unable to play in our next game because they just were so darn strong!! They are traditionally strong on special teams and cover kicks and punts extremely well. They always have a smart coaching staff who can make adjustments on the fly. There's also the St X tradition...it isn't just a commodity for the football team, it is instilled into everything they do...it's what they're about, and that's very admirable! They also are challenged almost weekly with a tough schedule and play in the Super District. Factory for mobile, tough linebackers.

I think that the Purples will need to keep being opportunistic and keep their cohesiveness on offense growing. Easily Gott's biggest game to date...he's going to have to come through again. The running game will have to make Gott more effective. Defense will have to get to the QB often...no surprises in the air. Either way, it's going to be a tight game, and I give the edge to the Purples because they're sooooo tough to beat at Donaldson Stadium/Beard Field!

Logan Butler = difference maker.

Bowling Green 28-14.

I'm not picking against BG until they lose.

Purples win 28-21.
