Because his stats weren't good enough to beat anyone. If the Browns are gonna be terrible, which they won't but it'll be rougher without Gordon, then it doesn't make sense to start Manziel. Why throw him out there with no help? It's not going to help him long term. Browns can sit Manziel and play him sparingly until about week 5-6 and then put him out there if Hoyer struggles. Gordon will likely serve an 8 game suspension so he'll be back shortly after Manziel comes into the picture.
August 20, 201412 yr The way the Browns have handled QBs over the past 20 years, if I were the Browns I would discuss their best option and then do the opposite.
August 20, 201412 yr If I'm the Brownies coach I would've wait until after this weeks preseason game. Then you would have had a starting QB who had very few starting reps in practice and in game situations when the first real game comes along. The third preseason game is the game when your starting QB needs to get the most reps with the starters.
