Congrats to PT. I wish him nothing but the best of success the remainder of his time at UK.

I have to admit I thougt PT was odd man out. Good luck to PT.

I get the feeling that Coach Stoops really values toughness. Could this have been a factor in PT being named the starter? Maybe someone from the NKY area or someone with ties to the UK team could comment on the relative degree of toughness of PT and Barker (and Phillips and Smith). Everything else being about equal, I'd go with the toughest player if I had to choose. I think it is easier for a QB to be a leader when he is tough, as the other players recognize that and respect him for it.

Can't speak to Phillips. Toughness is not an issue with either PT or Drew.

Stoops says he has not decided whether or not to redshirt Barker at this point. Hasn't determined a backup

Brett Dawson @BDawsonRivals

Mark Stoops says he won't "go down that road" yet with deciding on redshirting Drew Barker. Says he wants Barker to keep competing for now.

Won't go past game 4.

I agree. I'm glad PT got the nod, he's done the time and worked hard especially this off season and deserves it. I hope Drew can red shirt so he can get as much time as he needs to learn the college game etc. It will only serve him better down the road if they don't need to rush him out there.

I know young guys want to get out there as soon as possible, but a lot of time it can hurt you more than help your growth.

Can't imagine they would burn Barker's redshirt to be the backup.

Congrats PT. I honestly thought it would be PT since the spring game.

Congrats PT! I'm sure one of your old coaches is proud as well. Now show 'em why you earned it.

I honestly can't go the rest of the day without UK#1fan's opinion on this move.

UK#1fan?

UK#1fan?

:D

Looking forward to watching Patrick at the helm. He is a hard guy to get to the ground. Reminds me of Roethlisberger in this respect.

Being a partisan to the school to the west I look for reasons to be a supporter of UK. This is a good reason. PT has a lot of class and should do well.

His class always came through. After a semi-final game his senior year he reached out to his opponent who was after him all night - knowing it was the end of season for him...

Good luck Mr. Towles!
