Patrick Towles named UK's starting QB

Featured Replies

I honestly can't go the rest of the day without UK#1fan's opinion on this move.

UK#1fan?

UK#1fan?

:D

I hope Towles does well. Towles and Phillips are the QBs that I like.

I think it probably had something to do with his well documented flaws in his throwing mechanics.

Correct, but those "flaws" didn't develop over night. He was recruited w the same motion. So you are taking a kid and expecting him to just be comfortable with a new release right away and it doesn't just happen. (Not saying you to you but the hypothetical you)

Also, I don't get the thinking behind why people have been so low on PT prior to this. Either people have short term memories, or they cast people aside too quickly. PT was an All American, just like Barker. He played in bigger games than Barker. He led 3 teams to state championships. Sometimes it takes time to adapt to a game. He played FOUR games as a Freshman, never entered w/ good field position, and then sprained his ankle. Last year, they red shirted him. B/c he didn't beat out Whitlow last year, people wanted to put him out to pasture??? He was only a Sophomore. Some guys need more time. Not everyone is going to come into a DI program and set the world on fire. What happens if the same thing happens to Barker this year? He gets in a couple of games, does so-so (but in actuallity pretty well for a Freshman) do we move on to the next guy?

Everybody wanted him to beat out Whitlow and he didn't. I don't recall anyone wanting Whitlow at QB last year. Once PT never took a single snap last season it made it much easier to put him out to pasture.

College coaches do not teach throwing mechanics, for the most part, not enough time is a big reason. PT was not recruited by this staff, that is why they told him he needed to change his mechanics.

IMO, he still has the worst of the three qbs. Also, when I watched him in practice throw, he still has the same throwing motion, the only thing different, that I see, is where he holds the ball pre-pass.

I wish PT all the best and I will be there in Commonwealth Stadium cheering him and the rest of the team on to hopefully several victories!

Damn, I lost that bet, I thought for sure you would say the other QB.....DB

For the record the three choices I had to choose from were:

1) UK Fan will say he likes Towles and Phillips

2) The best college qb in the state is from a Kenton County school in Ky

3) DB is a great qb and is his favorite

Dumb me chose the third option.

Barker is the QB with whom I have an obsession that, at best, is unhealthy and embarrassing. At worst it is disturbing and creepy.

Fixed it for you.

Plan is to RS Drew. He will prepare each week as if he is the backup QB.

If PT really has fixed his mechanics and can be accurate, he will have an NFL future. His size will be too much to pass up if he plays well.

Having met Patrick I could not be happier for him. One of the nicest kids I have ever met. Hope he rocks it for the cats. Having said that, I have met Drew Barker as well. Equally as nice. 2 great kids who can flat out play and have the complete package both on and off the field. Hope they both get 2 great years as QB and get a chance to play after college if they so choose.
