Actually Collins has never lost in the 1st or 2nd round. They've at least made it to the semifinals 3 years in a row. However, they had never beaten one of the "Big Four" teams in 4A before last year.

It's a "Preseason" ranking for the upcoming season. It's not a ranking based on the performance of a team "year in and year out".

What? Yes we all know its a ranking for the upcoming season. My point is who and what programs are in that ranking year in and year out? The same as those top 5. Last 10-12 season, who other than those mention in the top 5 have won 4A title, with the exception of Martha Layne?

To put this to rest on my behalf... This season 4A belongs to ( One of the top 5 ) teams mentioned. Why? Cause they have a tradition of winning, tradition of multiple state championships, and the most important one... they have an excellent youth and feeder program, so by the time they make it into middle school and school. They are all prepped. K thank you. Well you can argue that Johnson Central has won 2 straight state middle school title, I cant answer why they haven't come close to a title lately.

The game to watch in the season opener is Mercer County vs. Bowling Green. Mercer is a bit under the radar despite what they did last season, if they can make a statement it would surprise me one bit to see them in the thick of the race.

 

Is Mercer County healthy? I have heard not yet. They have at least two real speedsters, but I heard 1 will be lucky to play. Can the line hold up early to arguably BGs best area (D Line)? So I think maybe win those district games and you can prove something. I just think its a lot to ask, but that's why they play.

I really really am hoping that CCH can finally break through and beat Highlands this year. I want to see how good they can be if HHS isn't in their way.

I will even wear the Colonels mascot outfit during that game if they'd let me.

They are not healthy at several key positions and I don't expect them to be by game. A lot of the players will go both ways so the depth of BG will probably be too much. But like u said.......that's why they play.

Russell County had their best shot last season and the season before. They ran into Boyle Co and Lex Cath 2nd round. Talent wise those were the season to do it but fell short. It will be down and out for a few yrs. Ashland has that talented RB and from what I hear, that is all. Hope for a healthy season for him.

 

Russell County lost a lot but cupboard isn't bare. Similar things were said last year after departure of Britt. Maybe they can live up to their ranking this year.

I've heard rumors that Russell County has added another stud running back because of a transfer that may not drop them as much as people think. The question still remains at the quarterback position. RC will not get past the first round or two of the playoffs because of their traditionally weak schedule. However, they'll have a decent year for their expectations.

I think Mercer's statement games will be when they begin district play and face Boyle County and LexCath. I'll be shocked if they can hang with BG opening the season. They'll be a much better team when district play starts.

Which transfers are you referring to? Jake Long from Ironton is all I know of. I'm not sure why they would be considered weak without transfers though. Last year they held their own after graduating all but three starters, they return a lot from last year's team, so I would exect them to be as good or better than last season, even without transfers. FWIW, Long transfered mid season last year. I'm not sure of any other transfers, but would like to know who they are and where they came from if there are some new players.
