Seems that from what I've heard, Collins has a fair number of returning starters. I love seeing Cov Cath so close to the top of the list, but do the Colonels, Boyle and Lex Cath really have the power coming back to put them all above the defending state champs, and the only Kentucky team to have beaten Highlands in the 3 seasons?

Agree!!! Until someone other programs steps up and goes deep in the playoffs CONSISTANLY year in and year out, the first 5 programs you mentioned are a shoe in. The rest will to have to take a back seat and watch.

As a Collins fan I think their ranking is fair. They return 10/23 starters (including the kicker) so that's 13 vacant positions that need to be filled. Collins does return a decent amount of talent but I think at this point #5 is a good spot for them.

Agree. You could make an argument but I think it's fair. I'm not that familiar with Russell County and Ashland this year.

Russell County had their best shot last season and the season before. They ran into Boyle Co and Lex Cath 2nd round. Talent wise those were the season to do it but fell short. It will be down and out for a few yrs. Ashland has that talented RB and from what I hear, that is all. Hope for a healthy season for him.

You're right. Put CovCath at #5, Collins at #4, LexCath at #3 and Boyle at #2.

Does it really matter who's #1, #2, #3, #4, #5??? Seriously though, do we see any other programs in the 4A that can sneak up on those top 5? I think not. " WE ALL KNOW " that the 4A state champ will be one of the top 5 that were mentioned.

4A is an interesting class this year...maybe the most interesting class to see how it pans out.

Though it is typically the same teams at the top..now you have all kinds of new variables:

- Mueller Retires

- Letton gone

- Chuck Smith returns

- Ashland with big time transfers after being possibly the weakest they have been

The game to watch in the season opener is Mercer County vs. Bowling Green. Mercer is a bit under the radar despite what they did last season, if they can make a statement it would surprise me one bit to see them in the thick of the race.

With all due respect I am fairly sure the same could have been said about "#1 and #2 " last year. It would have been very easy to pencil in Highlands and CovCath as the only two legitimate teams with a shot to win the title... and that Boyle and LexCath was the only team with a chance to win their region. Then Mercer Co beats Boyle and Collins beats Highlands.

I think Mercer's statement games will be when they begin district play and face Boyle County and LexCath. I'll be shocked if they can hang with BG opening the season. They'll be a much better team when district play starts.

It always matters. These are rankings and a rankings thread for discussion. If CWB doesn't think his boys should be #2 the Rebels of Boyle County will happily take that ranking and aim to improve on it.

My previous post had me stating " CONSISTANTLTY " year in and year out. Prior to last season Sir, where was Collins and Mercer Co? 1st round, maybe 2nd and done?

Agree that 4A will be interesting to watch this year. Lot's of changes at the top programs. At this point you could put the top 5 in a hat and draw out names and I wouldn't argue.
