July 27, 201412 yr I'll just chime in with my usual mantra. How do you decide in a situation such as a hospital who gets the guns? And' date=' again, doctors and other healthcare professionals are not immune from the same mental illnesses as the patients they see. What about the patients who aren't allowed weapons to protect themselves? Guns do not belong in the workplace.[/quote'] It's pretty simple. Do away with "gun-free zones" so those law abiding citizens can actually protect themselves. I'm not sure how many people need to be killed in "gun-free zones" before everyone realizes the criminals don't obey the posted signs.
July 27, 201412 yr Not a fan of the wild west form of solving problems. Count me among those who are willing to live life without wondering who is a good guy with a gun and who is a bad one, and who is a bad one masquerading as a good one. Then you will only have to worry about who is the bad guy carrying a gun, as there will be no good guys close 99% of the time to come to your aid. What do you not understand, the good guys are not your worry? Are you opposed to someone protecting theirselves, loved ones, friends and co-workers?

What do you not understand, the good guys are not your worry? Are you opposed to someone protecting theirselves, loved ones, friends and co-workers? I understand clearly and choose to live in an environment where I don't have to be surrounded by a throng of cowboys ready to be the Lone Ranger and the situation becoming a chaotic shoot out.
July 27, 201412 yr I understand clearly and choose to live in an environment where I don't have to be surrounded by a throng of cowboys ready to be the Lone Ranger and the situation becoming a chaotic shoot out. You sure about that? The last few years it has become abundantly clear that there are few places off limits to those with mental disabilities that are looking to inflict pain on others. As unfortunate as that is.
July 27, 201412 yr The doctor should be fired and charged with carrying a gun in a hospital. Step 1: Give the guy a raise. Step 2: Apologize for him having to overcome the incompetence of the hospital rule makers. Step 3: Lift the gun-free zone. Step 4: Give a huge settlement to the family of the man who died. Step 5: Apologize to the family for having to suffer the consequences of the stupidity of the Hospital leadership.
July 27, 201412 yr Gun free zones create environments that are akin to carnival target shooting games. Most people who carry guns, particularly those with concealed carry permits are law abiding citizens. I would rather be caught in the middle of a shootout than become a target in a shooting gallery.
July 27, 201412 yr I believe guns should go anywhere when they are in the hands of licensed trained individuals. Hats off to the doctor for doing his best to protect himself and the people around him. People can say no guns in the workplace, until they are placed in a position or threatening situation where they wish someone had a weapon to save their tails. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by six!

Good luck getting criminals or deer to abide by those rules....
July 27, 201412 yr I understand clearly and choose to live in an environment where I don't have to be surrounded by a throng of cowboys ready to be the Lone Ranger and the situation becoming a chaotic shoot out. Even if means potentially saving your life? I wonder what those people at the hospital think of that shootout and its outcome? I know of a bunker in the Rockies for sale? Interested?
July 27, 201412 yr You sure about that? The last few years it has become abundantly clear that there are few places off limits to those with mental disabilities that are looking to inflict pain on others. As unfortunate as that is. I think that the view that everyone carrying will stop the shootings. I think it's an extremely misguided view. I think that one needs to look no further than the theater patron who was legally carrying and loses it and shoots the guy texting to support my view. I respect the 2nd. I respect that people want to own guns. I do not think that they should be carried EVERYWHERE, though.
July 27, 201412 yr Even if means potentially saving your life? I wonder what those people at the hospital think of that shootout and its outcome? I know of a bunker in the Rockies for sale? Interested? I honestly live my life without fear of losing my life. If I do, so be it. But I refuse to live a fearful and armed life.
July 28, 201412 yr I honestly live my life without fear of losing my life. If I do, so be it. But I refuse to live a fearful and armed life. With all due respect, I believe you already live in that world.
July 28, 201412 yr With all due respect, I believe you already live in that world. I don't understand???
July 28, 201412 yr While carrying may not prevent loons from shooting, it sure abbreviated it in this instance, I think there's no debate about that.
July 28, 201412 yr I know several clergy who carry FWIW. Can't blame them either. This phenomenon of preachers packing guns really is intriguing. Like Clint Eastwood in "Pale Rider." My first thought was why do they need to rely on a 9 mm when they already have the power of the word, to say nothing of the breastplate of righteousness. Totally foreign to my way of thinking. Perhaps the topic is worthy of a separate thread.
