July 26, 201412 yr [video=youtube_share;2rJ9RHD79gE] Official: Hospital Gunman Intended to Kill Others A psychiatric patient ranted about a hospital gun ban before opening fire at the suburban medical complex, killing his caseworker and grazing his psychiatrist before the doctor pulled out his own weapon and fired back, authorities said Friday. Dr. Lee Silverman emptied his chamber, striking patient Richard Plotts several times. Plotts by then had shot the caseworker in the face and fired several shots at Silverman, including one that grazed his temple and another that struck his thumb, official said. Plotts had 39 unspent bullets on him when he was wrestled to the ground at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, authorities say — and police believe he had planned to use them. Hospital policy bars anyone except on-duty law enforcement officers from carrying weapons on campus, a Mercy Health System spokeswoman said. She otherwise declined to discuss why Silverman was armed at work. Several points I've made in the past being proved here. Question: How many of you think the good doctor will be fired?

I think there is a rather high likelihood in this case of it happening. I'd be highly interested to know why he felt it was needed to bring a gun with him to work despite knowing its a gun-free zone.
July 26, 201412 yr Author I think there is a rather high likelihood in this case of it happening. I'd be highly interested to know why he felt it was needed to bring a gun with him to work despite knowing its a gun-free zone.Considering his profession, he likely has had threats against his life.

As far as his reasoning in packing, it appears as though he was justified.
July 26, 201412 yr Author He will be fired. As far as his reasoning in packing, it appears as though he was justified. Agreed. And if he wasn't packing he and seemingly many more would be dead.
July 26, 201412 yr Gun-Free Zones are possibly one of the worst ideas in history as only law abiding citizens will follow the rules. If Gun-Free Zones worked then we could just make Murder-Free Zones and eliminate murders too.

July 26, 201412 yr I think he will be fired. If I'm him I really wouldn't care. I'd rather be alive needing a job then dead with one.

July 26, 201412 yr The doctor should be fired and charged with carrying a gun in a hospital. Find a DA that will purse that and I will find you a DA that won't be much longer.
July 26, 201412 yr Like response to shooting - order a bigger No Gun sign. Obviously the gunman did not see the one they have. Any place that declares itself 'gun free' should be required to have armed security personnel.
