Shooter In A Gun-Free Zone Stopped By A Doctor With A Gun

Featured Replies

The doctor should be fired and charged with carrying a gun in a hospital.

Really? You really think that or are you being sarcastic?

You have no idea how dangerous his profession is.

I cannot image a jury finding guilty. They would find him innocent or have a hung jury, but guilty, just cannot image it.

Wow...

I think there is a rather high likelihood in this case of it happening. I'd be highly interested to know why he felt it was needed to bring a gun with him to work despite knowing its a gun-free zone.

As for his reasoning, I'd say the proof is in the pudding. .... That's why the doctor felt the need to carry a gun without others are that he was.

He will be fired.

As far as his reasoning in packing, it appears as though he was justified.

Sad but true we discussed this at work Friday. Glad my job allows me to carry guns on me when I feel the need.

Gun-Free Zones are possibly one of the worst ideas in history as only law abiding citizens will follow the rules. If Gun-Free Zones worked then we could just make Murder-Free Zones and eliminate murders too.

As Lloyd Christmas would say "So you're saying there's a chance"

Sorry wouldn't let me bold your comment about murder free zones which I really wanted to

How long have you been in California now?

:lol2:

I work in an acute care facility for the mentally ill. We are also forbidden to carry any weapons, not even a small can of pepper spray in our pockets. The security people who back us up have the same rules.

Our experience and training go a long way to avoid violence, but we deal with that potential every day. Unfortunately, if you get someone who is delusional enough or paranoid enough, no amount of talking is going to change that. We have had staff members get teeth knocked out, bones broken, punched in the face, spit on, hair pulled out, etc.

Though part of our policy for saftey is to search our patients, there is always a brief period of time between them walking in the door and the time they are searched when anything can happen. We often find knives and razor blades, and yes an occasional gun. I don't have the courage to break the rules, but I sometimes secretly hope, that one of my coworkers does.

BTW, neither the insurance companies or the government want to spend money on the mentally ill. The end result is shorter hospital stays and an outpatient setting that makes it very difficult, if not impossible to get care in the community. The end result is very sick people wandering the streets.

I think it is sad, but that doctor made the correct decision to break the rules. Unfortunately, one innocent person died, but he probably saved his own life and the lives of others.

.

So y'all believe that guns belong in hospitals being carried by staff? (Not security staff.) Maybe we should have clergy carry guns? And how about our schools? Just think how many kids could be saved if the faculty was carrying heat!

If it was only hospital policy to be a gun free zone, he should not be charged. But he should still be disciplined.

Look, I understand that it may have been a dangerous job. But if thats the case, you don't bring a gun to work. You work to make it safer. If that's not possible, you look for another job.

Properly train school staff and arm the ones that feel comfortable being armed, I have zero problem with that idea.

How would you propose to make it safer against patients that could possibly bring in a firearm? But even if someone felt it wasn't safe and sought another job that doesn't mean the job still doesn't need to be done by someone else.

I would be fine with all you have mentioned to carry guns, so long as they are properly trained and screened.

By him carrying a gun into that hospital, the doctor made it safer. Thanks to him, he and countless others were afforded the ability to go home to their families. Kudos to him.

The doctor did make his workplace safer. I agree with you about charging the doctor if he broke the law but if I were on the jury, the best the prosecutor could hope for would be a hung jury.
