Interesting thought I had... how would you rank a Top 5 of the programs who have never gotten over the hump from a Historical Standpoint?

John Hardin has to be one even though they have been around only 14 years. Probably the second best 5A team the last several years and have won their Region every year since 2007 I believe.

Has Raceland won a title? Ryle has had some strong teams in it's short history.

Unfortunately I think we (Somerset) have the record for most appearances in the finals without a Title.

 

That IMO would put us on top of this dubious list.

 

That said, I'd rather be 0-5 in title games than to be 0-0 and never make it there.

Pretty close to what I would say, of those listed in your OP. I'd probably put John Hardin and Henderson County up high on the list.

In reading down the list once, the schools that jumped off the page to me were Boone County, Madison Central, Somerset, and Warren Central. Just at first blush.

Don't forget about good ole Raceland!

If we're going based on individual seasons, I've got to throw LaRue County's 2002 squad in there. Went undefeated until meeting Corbin in the quarterfinals, and should've won that game -- IMHO.

Not to mention only four losing seasons EVER dating back to 1928.

JC has had some good teams that probably could've won a title or two if it wasn't for that one school up north.

Boone County was state runner ups in 86', 87', 92', and 94'. They made it to the semi finals also in 83', 88', 89', 90', 93', and 97'. They might have thrown 20 passes in all of those games combined. I believe two of the state game losses were by 3 points. A couple of the semi final losses were in over time or by one score to the eventual champion. A real story of what could have been with Boone in the 80s and 90s.
