I am going to throw out another team that has been so close with deep playoff runs in the past 10 years and that the little school that consolidated from Tompkinsville and Gamaliel. Monroe County. Looks like they should be considered since they have made several deep runs the last few years only to run into Louisville Central two years ago.

I think I'd have loved to see them play in either 2011 or 2012. JH would have been a lock last year. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to project a split in the other two.

We they ranked #1 in Class A before the playoffs started? Maybe that is the impetus for their claim.

They were 11-2-1 and lost to Lynch in the State Final. Don't know how they claim it unless it's a Lit Ranking thing. Was Raymond Webb an Asst under Leathers? Ask him what it's all about and I have no doubt the old Ball Coach will have an opinion on it. :lol2:

Ya'll be careful not to give anyone ideas. I have seen enough Mayfield/Beechwood debates about old games that if suddenly stats are enough to claim victories then both parties may start self appointing titles they lost.

Frankfort and Bardstown tied in the Regional Game and won based on stats. But they still had to play the next round and won, only to lose a tough one to Lynch in the Championship.

 

In those days, tie games were determined in the playoffs by stats. One year, by how far each team advanced when they had the ball for one possession each. Crazy stuff.

Okay, I did a little research project this morning to get a statistical breakdown of the best Kentucky programs to never win a title.

 

A rundown of my methodology:

-Each school was given one point for every playoff win.

 

-Each school was given two points for every district championship. District championships have traditionally been decided during the regular season. However, from 1959-72 some regions weren't divided into district, so therefore the regional champion was declared district champion for the purpose of this project. Also, from 1979-86 the state divided some districts into sub-districts. For the purpose of this project, sub-district champions count as district champions. And also, for a two-year period in 2006-07 district champions were determined in the playoffs.

 

-Each school was given three points for every state championship game loss.
