People don't like a lot of empty seats at the games. I highly doubt the players care about that honestly.

 

Yep, players don't care about the empty seats. As long as their momma, dad and girlfriend have a seat they don't care how many are empty.

I paid to have the KHSAA archive convert the state game that I played in over to DVD a couple of years ago, and when I watched it I remember distinctly thinking "Wow....there are a LOT of open seats in those stands", but I can still tell you for fact that that thought didn't even cross my mind while the game was going on. ALL of the team's thoughts were completely 100% focused on the fact that we were actually playing at Cardinal Stadium in the state championship, and that we were going to win the game.

If you poll kids around the state that have played in the State Championship game over the years, I'm pretty sure very few of them were worried about the number of empty seats in the stadium.

More seats, more parking, more concessions, hospitality rooms, suites, more locker room space. Then you can talk about the actual towns the games are in. Louisville/Lexington are better than any other options when thinking about lodging, food, entertainment, and anything else related to visitors from out of town.

 

Why wouldn't you have it at a bigger stadium?

Louisville/Lexington is overkill. For all of the football state championships I have been to WKU has been the best place by far. Louisville/Lexington are both closer to where I live but fan experience at WKU has been the best. The fans are the ones spending the money. For my dollars, WKU is perfect. Last time I was at Papa John's for the state finals it took an hour and half to get out of the parking lot. :no:

That's because you don't know where/how to park. It's a personal preference for every person, but if a more "intimate" setting is the only advantage to having it at a smaller place, I think the positives of a bigger venue outweigh that greatly.

I believe there will be a strong push for the finals to be moved to Lexington, but will the issue of stadium size be a factor? Or if the games are moved to Lexington will it be a more centralized location for more fans to attend?

In regards to lodging, WKU and Bowling Green are doing some great things to upgrade their accommodations.

I'd like to see a rotation of Morehead, Murray, Eastern, and Western.

I know baseball isn't the same, but I can remember Harrison County (4.5 hours away) playing Boyd County (6 hours away) in a state finals in Paducah.

The games would not be played at the same time.

 

For example, play the 1a and 2a games at Georgetown on Friday at 11am and 3pm and the 5a game at UK at 8pm.

 

Play the 3a and 4a games at EKU on Saturday at 11am and 3pm and the 6a game at UK at 8pm.

 

Other states do this and it works great.

It is a half hour drive from both EKU and Georgetown to Commonwealth Stadium.

 

Fans who watched the 3PM game could easily make it to the 8PM game an hour early.

I really think the 1st year its at Commonwealth will be the largest attendance ever!
