Turf at Commonwealth - State Finals to Follow?

Featured Replies

Western is a great spot for the game, I just think that if it's going to move Commonwealth would be the obvious choice. PJS just feels a lot bigger than CS to me.

With the updates, Commonwealth will be a lot smaller. Should help with the environment issue.

Why not just drop any pretense at letting kids from outside the Lexington area play for state championships close to home and move them all there.

Roughly 5,000 seats smaller I believe. It will still be a large stadium. I'm all for the games being played at Commonwealth due to the central location. When the renovation is done however, Commonwealth will not look much if any, smaller.

Why not hold the state football finals at Centre College?

It is a beautiful college football facility. Farris Stadium holds 6,000 fans. Add seats to the visitor's side if you need them.

I'd say lodging and other logistics play a big part in it(Centre)

State finals in Lexington sounds like a great idea to me. I hope it happens.

That, an no parking whatsoever.

Also, I started this thread because I know the KHSAA has soured some on Western. Personally, I hope it stays at WKU because I think it makes for a better environment that Papa Johns did or Commonwealth perhaps would.

I would much rather have a full stadium with parking and lodging problems than an almost empty stadium for each game.

But parking and lodging problems mean that you won't have a full stadium.

Also, I've been to Centre's stadium many times and I would be floored if it actually held 6,000. It also has no media room, no place for coaches to meet/network (a major part of the state finals, by the way), and extremely limited concessions.

Build it up.

They will come.

It goes from 67k to 61k. That's hardly "a lot smaller."

With 61k capacity that means most games will have 56k empty seats.

Word.

Toyota (Georgetown) Stadium with 5000 seat and expandable to 20000 would be better choice than Centre...IMO as would EKU
