I have had the good fortune to watch Mayfield play in title games at Commonwealth Stadium, Hanger Field (I think they changed the name to Roy Kidd), Old Cardinal Stadium, Papa Johns Stadium and Houchens Industries–L. T. Smith Stadium WKU. About all that is left would be Murray ( who has the facilities) and Morehead.

 

Best stadium to watch was easily WKU, best amenities was Old Cardinal Stadium due to the Executive Inn's being where all stayed from all schools and being right there at the stadium. UK was coolest just simply because it was so big and seemed at the time to be the coolest stadium. Nicest was Papa Johns.

All have their pros and cons just depends on what is most important to you. I suspect the KHSAA thinks that way to and to them the most important is likely where they can come out the best financially

I think Commonwealth would make a nice change and add an influx of fans. Take out a handful of teams and most of the state finals competitors over the past 10 years would find lex a more central location.

If EKU's plans to move to FBS come to life it would be perfect. If they add a new visitors side that would be similar to WKU and be in the central part of the state it would be a perfect fit.

Centre College. Boom. Let's do this. Free parking in my neighborhood and the shuttle SUV will take you to and from Centre for $5.00 one way or round trip for a 6 pack of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale(bottles).

 

No offense to anybody in the Centre College family, but "getting" to play there for a State Championship game isn't that exciting, IMO. Yes, the kids should be excited enough to play in the game regardless of where it's held, but again IMO, playing in a big stadium for the State Championship would be/is way more cool... Same could be said for Georgetown.

I think so too, having gone to UK games there: long walk to stadium; difficulty finding parking place when crowded; a godawful odyssey once you get inside; uncomfortable bench seats. At least. So what are your reasons not to like Commonwealth?

 

And what's Roy Kidd like? Eastern might be great.

When you say getting in and out, do you mean the stadium, or the area around the stadium? And the layout seems pretty simple to me.

Yes, KHSAA has to make a little profit but the fans have to get there, they have to find their seats with minimal hassle, they have to be comfortable, they have to be able to get out of the place, and there must be accommodations for eating and stayovers. I don't like WKU for a lot of reasons, starting with lousy parking. I don't think KHSAA knows how to run something this big. My ideal stadium is Lucas Oil in Indianapolis, with or without that dome ... if only we had something like LO in KY. And let's not talk about the Sweet 16 at Rupp ........ aaaawwwwggghhhhhhhh!

Also, I started this thread because I know the KHSAA has soured some on Western. Personally, I hope it stays at WKU because I think it makes for a better environment that Papa Johns did or Commonwealth perhaps would.

People don't like a lot of empty seats at the games. I highly doubt the players care about that honestly.

Yep, players don't care about the empty seats. As long as their momma, dad and girlfriend have a seat they don't care how many are empty.

The parking situation at PJCS is hilarious. Those lots are awful. On UofL game days, I don't park anywhere near it, but on the other side of the railroad tracks off Third Street. The smart people who park in those areas plan a pre-game tailgate and a post-game tailgate and just wait for everyone to leave. I've always done the same thing after the Trinity/St. X game.
