IF the Reds decide to retool at the All Star Break, how would you do it?

Featured Replies

Leave the discussion of whether they SHOULD retool at the door. I think this homestand before the ASB will help sort that out. Assume that they are going to retool and explain what moves you would make if you were Jockety.

Here goes:

Deal Cueto -- should get decent value, particularly if it is club like the Yankees, Red Sox, etc. that think they could sign him long term. He's gone soon because the Reds can't afford him.

Deal Latos -- same theory. You'll get more value for him because he still has years with handcuffs. Will increase the # of teams you can deal with.

Deal BPhil -- I know we tried this in the offseason. If you can get any value, trade him. If not, let him play out his contract here. (How many more years does he have?)

Deal Ludwick -- maybe STL would send us a bag of balls and a couple of hats.

Deal Mesoraco -- anyone else think his stock is as high right now as it is ever going to be?

Deal Chapman -- somebody will overpay. Also, after these deals, a closer is unnecessary.

Deal Broxton -- if you can get anything of value. (See Chapman re: closer)

Votto, Bruce & Bailey -- contracts make them "untradeable"

Iglesias (i.e., "Cuban Missile 2") -- bring him to GABP once his paperwork is straightened out. Plenty of room in the rotation (see above)

Cingrani -- put him out there every 5th day and tell him to figure it out. 20 pushups for every 1st pitch ball and every 2-1 count. Most people don't remember that Glavine and Smoltz were terrible for the Braves early on.

I'd be really disappointed if they moved Meso.

I'd see what's on the market for Latos. I really don't think we keep him after next year.

No way you trade Meso or Bruce, and in no way shape or form does Bruce's contract make him untradeable.

Would be so much fun anticipating when the 8 2nd half wins would come...

You're such a tease.

I don't get why you would retool when you aren't even close to ring out of the race. They need a few pieces, a bench bat and a reliever, to make a solid run this year at getting into the playoffs. No need to blow the thing up

Let me guess, you've won your Fantasy Baseball league like 9 times in the last 15 years?

If the Reds made these moves, it would clear up a lot of evenings for me, I wouldn't watch another game this season.

I'll wait... :idunno:

Re-tool. Does that mean sign another BP?:sssh:

The tables would turn. We would then become the Cubs whipping boy.

There is zero, I repeat ZERO logical reasoning for moving Meso.

I'm already there.
