IF the Reds decide to retool at the All Star Break, how would you do it?

I don't think jpa is saying do all this. I think jpa is throwing out various options for discussion.

On Bailey, I think his contract makes him one of the most tradeable options for the Reds. Trade Bailey and sign Latos and Cueto.

Cueto and Latos are going to cost north of a quarter billion dollars combined...

I had a long, detailed post drafted and just scrapped it.

I am flabbergasted. Confused. Dumbfounded. Surely this is some type of joke, right?

I been reading a lot of the Reds threads this year, but decided to save most of my post for the Bengals lol...However why would anyone want to go ahead and start dealing players? Yes this year got off to a bad start, however besides being swept by the Padres, they have played really well lately. The Reds are just as much in the race as most teams are.

I think the Reds need to be more in the win now mode, because of how hard it will be to keep Latos and Cueto in future years. Need to try to keep pulling it together and make a run this year.

Needs for 2nd half:

1. First baseman. Only a matter of when not if Votto is shut down.

2. Middle relief specifically someone who can go 4 or more innings and can be used as much as needed within reason to allow a 5th backup position player.

3. Better bench (Heisey and Skip S and Pena are okay, the rest ???)

Let me guess, you've won your Fantasy Baseball league like 9 times in the last 15 years?

Nope. Haven't played fantasy baseball in over 15 years. Too time consuming for me to keep track of. I do, however, watch virtually every pitch of every Reds game (albeit at 2x speed on my TiVo to make the game last 20 minutes rather than 3 hours).

Intentionally laid out of this discussion over the weekend. Tried to make it as clear as I could in the TITLE and OP that I was not advocating for a retool. I even used ALL CAPS to try to make that point.

With the starters and Broxton / Chapman, Reds would be a concern for any wild card survivor game OR 1st round opponent. If you can get in the dance, you give it a shot. If you can't, you don't want to get stuck with players you will lose to FA and get nothing for them.

With the 2nd wild card in place, does MLB need to consider moving the trade deadline to 8.15?

I agree the Reds have more than enough Pitching to dominate in post season...just have to score on occasion.

Why push it back?

Why push it back?

August 31 is the real trade deadline anyway.

Yeah, but it'd be nice to move past the whole "can you believe they put him on waivers?" thing that always happens during August. I like the idea of moving it back as well. With so many teams still with a sniff of a WC, the blockbuster deadline trade in MLB just doesn't much happen anymore.
