June 10, 201412 yr I would estimate the approximately 400 at NCC and 350 at Brossart now might shrink from 750 to maybe 675-700 four years from now due to the declining enrollment in Catholic grade schools in Campbell County. If you were to combine NCC and Brossart four years from now (and a new school is not being built let's face it) one campus would have to suffice for the merger to make any economical sense. I would estimate the new combined school using one campus would be lucky to have 500 students and realistically might be closer to 400 or less. That is just the way it would be. Tuition would not be any less expensive and there are too many other options so geographically close. Enrollment is on the upswing at St Mary for next year. As I stated before, these are just cyclical issues in the private school environment. They balance themselves over time. As TAC stated, the new subdivision in A-Town will likely add enrollment for BBHS.
June 10, 201412 yr The Diocese should of took Uncle Wayne's offer some 15-20 years ago. This would be a moot point right now wouldn't it? I'm not going into details with the situation but the people that know what I'm talking about, probably wish the Diocese would of taken the offer and ran with it back then. It still might not be too late. Someone get him on the phone......:thumb: Or maybe not!
June 10, 201412 yr Here's an idea, raise tuition! Even charge an extra $500 per year if you are not Catholic. Wait, don't some schools already do that? Maybe they all do....Who knows!
June 10, 201412 yr Did the principal resign or was he fired? I've heard it both "not retained" and "released" aka as "fired." AD was also pushed out as well. Principal replaced by Dan Ridder and AD replaced by Adam Franzen.

June 10, 201412 yr Out of curiosity, approximately how many Catholic school kids end up at Highlands?
June 10, 201412 yr Out of curiosity, approximately how many Catholic school kids end up at Highlands? Depends on the class - you have so many that leave St. Catherine and St. Thomas to enter middle school at Highlands and then you have that second wave after 8th grade. I'd say all told, an average somewhere between 20 and 30 per class. Best guess. St. Catherine and St. Thomas just have less to give anymore. A portion of that number every year also comes from St. Therese. These kids that go from Catholic grade school to Highlands really don't have a large impact on enrollment, I would think, but from time to time can impact athletics (Zach Harris from St. Joe's, Brendan Buten from St. Thomas as examples).
June 10, 201412 yr if you want to close some smaller schools lets go after all of those single A schools that are smaller than Brossart. Private schools are self funded and tax payers could save some dollars by closing those schools and sending those kids to the mega county schools already open. I love the talk of how great the sports program would be if you combined the 2 catholic campbell co schools. geez, how many district, region and state championships did the 2 combine for this year? The way I look at it is that you now have twice as many kids getting the experience of playing a high school sport, being the lead in the class play and sitting on student government. I have a vested interest in both schools, having graduated from one, and my kids going to the other. Very happy to see both schools continue to have great success both on the field and in the classroom. There is room for both of them, both will continue the Catholic education and Brossart will get the enrollment back to close to 400 with the resurgence of St. Mary and the new 1,000 home sub division going in a few miles away from the school. So, you feel that NewCath and Brossart are able to offer the same programs as CovCath and NDA? (Why did Noll leave NewCath again?) The reason that I stated athletics was due to the fact that, everything else is pretty close to equal. You have a common culture, moral, and religious base shared by both schools. Academically, they are very close. So, the only reason that people oppose it, is b/c of community pride. A lot of that comes down to sports rivalries. A lot of that comes from being able to be a big fish in a small pond w/in the inner workings of the school. NewCath is doing fine as is. They compete in all 3 sports with the best of NKY. Brossart has a good track program, a very good BBall program and baseball is on par w/ NewCath's. Once St. Mary's levels out, it will be business as usual. However, wouldn't a combination be able to offer more academically? It won't happen, but it isn't a horrible idea.
June 10, 201412 yr If you combined NCC/BB what class would they be in for football? Probably still 2a.
June 10, 201412 yr Probably still 2a. Looked like one of the bigger 3A teams when I looked it up, but I might not have been looking at it correctly.
June 10, 201412 yr And parts of southern Boone (I couldn't hep myself) No you didn't...... :lol2: Just to clarify the distance situation in regards to NKY: It is 11 miles between NCC and Brossart. These schools as best I can determine are less than 11 miles from NCC: Dayton, Bellevue, Newport, Highlands, Silver Grove, CovCath, Notre Dame, Ludlow, Holy Cross, Holmes, Beechwood, Scott, Cov Latin, Villa Academy http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-boys-basketball/northern-kentucky-schools-267245.html

As TAC stated, the new subdivision in A-Town will likely add enrollment for BBHS. You still have the problem of Tuition for 4 years being almost 25,000 now. Probably over 30,000 at least by the time any upswing in St Mary (where tuition is over 4000 a year I believe) gets to high school. And that is for each child. I would not bank on an increase in enrollment.

But then I have to ask myself, how does Elder HS have over 1000 students (remember, male only), when tuition is $10,200/year? It's not like the west side of Cincinnati is affluent.
