May 28, 201412 yr Couldn't the same be said for the Dems. before 2008 when they found the candidate from the great state of Manchuria? I think Jesse Jackson may have won some primaries for the Dems.
May 28, 201412 yr I think Jesse Jackson may have won some primaries for the Dems. I know he got close but I can't recall if he ever made it over hump and won a state primary. If Dr. Carson ran, I have no doubt he would win quite a few primaries, I just don't know if he would win enough for the nomination.
May 28, 201412 yr No, in fact, it's all the more reason to. Just pointing out how so many jumped on his bandwagon for no real reason from the start. Which makes this thread incredibly ironic.
May 28, 201412 yr All I am seeing is a double standard. Dems-2008 "Obama is our guy and we have read his books and columns and listened to his speeches. We know what he is about and he is a great candidate for POTUS. His plans will work." Repubs-2008 "He has no true politcal experience. Only been a senator for one term. His plans won't work and he won't know how to implement them anyways." Repubs-2014 "Carson is our guy and we have read his books and columns and listened to his speeches. We know what he is about and he is a great candidate for POTUS. His plans will work." Dems-2014 "He has no true political experience. His plans won't work and he won't know how to implement them anyways." The cycle continues.........
May 28, 201412 yr Author I still wish Colin Powell had ran for Pres. Would you have voted for him? He is on the liberal side of moderate in most of his positions...while he is for the most part a moderate he definitely leans to the liberal side.

If Dr. Carson ran, I have no doubt he would win quite a few primaries, I just don't know if he would win enough for the nomination. Results over the past 62 years show Carson would win zero primaries. Zilch. He simply would not have a strong enough fan base to raise the zillions of dollars necessary to secure the nomination. Since 2008, the GOP has become less racially diverse, mainly because of the party's position on immigration and recent voter suppression efforts.

So you are implying that whites wouldn't vote for a black? You are equating immigration issues and belief in following existing laws with a lack of diversity? IMO that is not a lack of diversity it is evidence to me that the democratic party is a coalition of self-interested groups with the welfare of the country on the back plate to their own personal interests.

Using that same logic, in 2007 you could have said in the past 150 or so years, no African American has won a parties nomination therefore Senator Obama has zero Zilch chance of winning the White House. While Dr. Carson would probably not win the primary for any party due to not putting in his time in politics to build alliances needed to win or be competitive, I think he would take a state or two in the primary, especially less conservative states which could identify with his more moderate views. The part about his not putting in the time in politics to build alliances is another reason I think Dr. Carson should spend some time in Congress or possibly as a governor before going for the White House.

Why would Ben Carson be able to win a GOP state primary when Herman Cain and Alan Keyes never did? Cain and Keyes were both sharp, successful, articulate guys who did well on the debate stage -- were they not? Carson's best role would be to serve as HHS secretary should Rick Perry or Jeb Bush beat Hillary in 2.5 years.

Dr Carson has a hot button issue to rail against ie AHCA. Rick Perry will NEVER win the POTUS race.

IMO that is not a lack of diversity it is evidence to me that the democratic party is a coalition of self-interested groups with the welfare of the country on the back plate to their own personal interests. I'm just connecting the dots based on historical voting patterns. When it comes to selecting a president, the Republican Party loves to nominate mature white men who come from states west of the Mississippi River: Ike, Nixon, Goldwater, Reagan, both Bushes, Dole and McCain. (The two geographical exceptions since '52 were Ford and Romney.) Again, unless I've missed something, I can find no evidence that anyone other than white males have ever won a state GOP presidential primary or its equivalent, and there have been more than 780 of these popularity contests. To underscore my point, keep an eye on the Tim Scott GOP Senate primary in South Carolina in six months.
