May 22, 201412 yr He did finish what he was saying but the lady to his left tried 3 or 4 times to interrupt him and he wouldn't allow her to. So...in the end, he said what he wanted to say. And please...that is NOT the worst I've seen people interrupted on talk shows. As far as the ACA goes it will never go away :( but it can be fixed and made much more user friendly for patients and doctors and not as friendly to Big Pharma, Hospitals, insurance companies and those that are and will be getting rich from this legislation. And I believe ACA has warts as well, and can be better. But we had to start somewhere. We've had DECADES of administrations promising to tackle the issue and no one did anything of consequence. At least we've gotten SOMETHING in place. We can tweak it and there are certainly lots of areas to look to do that. But I'm so sick of the talk to repeal it in it's entirety like THAT is a plan. Again, I'm interested in hearing more of What Dr. Carson may envision.
May 22, 201412 yr That's the sort of sentiment that drives me crazy too. It pervades a lot of thinking about a lot of different things. But that sort of Edenic ideal of a time lost that we struggle to get back to is pointless. There can be a great country and great world ahead, but it lies forward not backward. To think otherwise is willful disregard for the problems of decades and centuries past. It depends what the speaker considers "back" to refer to. Some may really mean the country needs to be like it was back in the past ie the good ole 1950's. For some, they may mean back like to get back on track. IE, "I was riding along the path but veered off, now I am back on track" In this instance, getting back means getting back on track so the country CAN move forward and not be stuck in the mud like many feel the country is.
May 22, 201412 yr Doubtful. Do you think many black democrats look at him as the Uncle Tom type or just that his being conservative over rides the fact he is black?

I guess I'm still confused...exactly at what point was it "on track"? At what point historically do we try to return to to move forward? What exactly is moving forward? To where?
May 22, 201412 yr Ben Carson is not just any doctor - he is a retired neurosurgeon who rose from a life of poverty in Detroit to the pinnacle of his profession. He was named the Director of Pediatric Surgery at Johns Hopkins at age 33. Dr. Carson retired as one of the top neurosurgeons in the world. If he decides to run for president, no candidate, no member of Congress, and nobody currently in the White House will be more qualified to analyze and propose fixes to the train wreck that is Obamacare.
May 23, 201412 yr I heard this interview today. I enjoy listening to really smart people. However, I don't get the "he needs to be POTUS" reaction. All he said in the interview I heard is what our problems are. I didn't hear how he plans on fixing them. I'm curious to hear those plans.
May 23, 201412 yr I didn't realize there was a movie made about Carson until I read up on him some last night. Has anyone watched it? Edited May 23, 201412 yr by Randy Parker
May 23, 201412 yr Author Here are a few of his ideas to fix Health Care... Ben Carson on Health Care Before anyone loses their mind on the first quote look closely, the word "SINCE" is in there. Not worse than, but the worst "SINCE"

Not worse than, but the worst "SINCE" He mentioned HSA is the first post. What does the HSA do ? How is it better? What if you are unemployed? Poor? How does it lower costs? Does it replace insurance companies?

If he decides to run for president, no candidate, no member of Congress, and nobody currently in the White House will be more qualified to analyze and propose fixes to the train wreck that is Obamacare. I like Dr. Carson. He came to Louisville two weeks ago and spoke at a fundraiser for a Pro Life Ministry very dear to my heart and helped us raise more money than we have ever raised from previous fundraisers, actually he doubled what we made at the previous highest fundraiser. Saying that, the only thing I have against Dr. Carson is the biggest concern I had about Obama. Does he have the government experience to run the country. Obama had a few years as a senator but before that was a community organizer. I believe his lack of experience did affect his ability to work with congress. Will this affect Dr. Carson? Or does Dr. Carson naturally have better people skills/leadership skills/etc. that he could hit the ground running. I would honestly like Dr. Carson to be governor or senator for several years first. Similar to Reagan as Governor of California. Or, if the GOP wins the election, maybe be named the Sec of Health and Human Services and the president tell him his first task is to either fix ACA or find something to replace it with. If he is successful doing that, a run for the White House is in his future.
May 23, 201412 yr Author He mentioned HSA is the first post. What does the HSA do ? How is it better? What if you are unemployed? Poor? How does it lower costs? Does it replace insurance companies? I heard him talk about HSA's on TV, HSA's are just a part of the fix not the entire thing. HSA's allow you to set money aside for later use...in theory the healthy could pay smaller premiums and place more in HSA's to use as needed. I have a friend who probably 15+ years ago did something similar, he started setting money aside to pay his day to day medical expenses and bought a major health policy for any issues that would cost him over $10,000 he has since raised that to $20K then $50 has his personal health account grew due to yearly contributions and he and his wife being fairly healthy. I assume HSA's would work similar under his plan.

I don't think a President has to be a Washington Insider, his Cabinet and Staff will be made up of those types of people...we need a President that doesn't think like a Washington Politician.
May 23, 201412 yr I guess I'm still confused...exactly at what point was it "on track"? At what point historically do we try to return to to move forward? What exactly is moving forward? To where? Well, in the past decades, Americans are often polled by several organizations if they feel the country is on the right track. Even in the best of times (to each his/her own opinion how to define that), you will always have some who say the US is on the wrong track but if I am not mistaking, the past several years (last decade or less I guess), the response that we are not on the right track is the highest it has ever been. Most analysts say the lingering depression, international unrest (Taliban still poking around, Syria, Crimean Peninsula), the appearance that China has or will soon pass up the US as the world's economic super power, many nations feeling Putin has taken the role from the president as the most powerful person on the planet, etc. as reasons for this high percentage of those who feel the US is not on track. As far as how to define when people feel the country is on track. I guess you could poll numbers are back to or even better than what the are now. If you want to avoid polls and actually what the country looks like when it is on track. I think many would say when the economy returns to a state where unemployment is at or better than historical averages, when the rest of the world looks to the US as being an international leader again (at least to the point we used to be), etc..
May 23, 201412 yr I don't think a President has to be a Washington Insider, his Cabinet and Staff will be made up of those types of people...we need a President that doesn't think like a Washington Politician. I agree and I really did not make my point very good. Let me say this. I don't know what type of experience (government or not) that Dr. Carson has leading/managing a large number of people (ie the executive branch which reports to the president) and also some experience in having to work with others in power who are independent from him (ie he cannot fire) similar to how the president must be able to work with congress. So, if Dr. Carson has this experience already in the private sector, I pull back my only discomfort of him becoming president.
May 23, 201412 yr Obama has not failed because he lacked extensive government experience. He has failed because he is exceedingly lazy and has no appreciation for the economic liberty that has made this nation great. Ben Carson has proven throughout his life that he has an outstanding work ethic. If I recall correction, Carson has said that his mother had a 4th grade education and his father left the family when he was 8 years old. He knows that people can overcome great disadvantages in this country if they are willing to work hard to achieve their goals in life. Carson understands the American dream because he has lived it. Dr. Carson did not wait to become deeply involved in charitable enterprises, as many politicians do, until he decided that he wanted to run for office. His organization has awarded over 5,600 $1,000 scholarships to deserving teenagers to apply toward college tuition. I am tired of seeing career politicians and deadbeat community organizers screw up this country. Obama has failed as a president because he never intended to work with Republicans to make this country a better place to live. It is time to give a highly successful person from the private sector a shot at straightening out the mess that the career politicians have created. If Carson does run for president, I don't expect that I will agree with all of his ideas (he favors outlawing semi-automatic weapons in places like Chicago) but he would enter the White House with my trust and my respect - two things that Obama has never earned.
