The emoticons make no sense. Anybody who would laugh at the suggestion that Palin has been an effective speaker is simply not paying attention.

In front of a podium in front of a crowd, Palin is a pretty good speaker. Her speech when she is introduced as the VP candidate was very good. During interviews.................she tends to falter a little bit.

You really didn't know those were modern teleprompters? I am starting to believe others that you just try to rattle the cage so to speak.

I wasn't sure what they were either — they look nothing like the one at the TV station I work with. Then again, they just stopped using their betamax machines a year or so ago.

Presidents have used this type for years at least back to Carter

I have to agree that she is better in front of a crowd than in an formal interview setting.

Guess it never really mattered enough to me to notice.

Well, it's easy to captivate a crowd that already loves you and will give you a pass for whatever you say. That's why I'm more impressed with candidates who can think on their feet and not look like a fool in an interview setting where the questions aren't pre-screened. Haven't seen any of those for a while, though.

The twin teleprompter screens allows Obama to appear to be talking to people on his left and his right. If you watch him closely you will see him moving from one screen to the other. This means that Obama does not need to be familiar with his script and explains why he gets that deer in the headlights look when the teleprompter goes down. He is the Ted Baxter of American presidents.

So, to get back in topic....how about Dr. Carver as a potential candidate for POTUS.

Most of those candidates don't make it far in the primary process.
