Don Jones Punishment-- Fair or Foul?

Featured Replies

I'm with you. Bad taste, but not vulgar or derogatory in any way. Definitely a violation of his 1st amendment rights.

NFL is scared of the homosexual community.

How so?

Seems rather intolerant of the dolphins as well as jones.

Not sure why they would be...

It wasn't a violation of his 1st amendment rights.

He wasn't arrested or charged with anything. You can say whatever you want but the 1st amendment doesn't protect you from being ridiculed or held accountable etc. for saying what you want.

First Amendment crowd really needs to learn what they're protected from:

Am I a homophobe if I completely and totally did not want my son to see that on national TV at the time it was aired? He's 5 and pays attention to anything on TV that is sports related.

Negative... You have the right to say whatever you want. Your workplace also has the right to fine you for it...

You have to remember this organization is not that far removed from the Richie Incognito/Jonathan Martin incident. Issues of intolerance will likely be dealt with pretty harshly by the Dolphins.

...I canned a guy on a jobsite for making racist remarks. I don't see why this guy's boss can't can him for making disparaging remarks about a gay person.

Of all the NFL teams to have a player tweet something, this was not the one. Article says that the Dolphins have had numerous meetings about tolerance issues. I do think it was probably sensationalized.

How many other NFL draftees kiss their significant other when their slot is announced ? I think typically it is their mother.

Like it or not, your employer has the ability to regulate your social media….just the facts.

I think this wraps it up in a nutshell..

Jones got off easy -- a fine and diversity training. Compare his punishment to the Benham brothers, who were fired recently by HGTV. The bottom line is the bottom line. Neither the NFL nor Scripps is willing to risk economic backlash over homophobic comments.

Unless there was more than what he tweeted, what else did you expect them to do to him?
