How important will the Boyle County/LexCath regular season game be you ask?

 

Potentially the loser could see a playoff path of:

Waggener

@ Central

@ Boyle/LexCath

@ Ft. Campbell

vs. Belfry

 

If you are LexCath that is a path of teams with a combined 32 Finals Appearances (21 Titles and 11 Runner-Ups) standing between you and a Title with only one game at home in Odd years.

 

I'm hoping that Garrard County will at least have a little something to say in that district, along with Boyle and Catholic.

So your saying that LC should fold their tents and should not even show up? What if you replace Lex Cath and put in Boyle Co. as coming in second, would their patch be easier? What im saying is that each team in that district ( Not sure about FT Campbell ) has won multiple state championships, Including 2 for Lex Cath and several state semi- final appearance. So to me that is battle tested. Don't get me wrong, Im not offended, but just wanted to know why you would mention such a statement knowing all teams have won several championships.

 

Just pointing out the loser would have to make a Herculean run to win a Title on the road. The numbers just simply are even more staggering when LexCath is the team having to make the run and not Boyle since Boyle's Final Appearances and Titles are so large.

 

That regular season matchup may very well be the most important District Game in the State now for the implications I mention and home field advantage.

 

The path will be tough no matter who you are... but getting an extra two home games and getting to avoid Central on the road in the 2nd Round is a major, major advantage when you win the District in the regular season.

This is what happens with 6 classes. Just doesn't make sense...

Yes that is a loaded district but what argument could they make Boone is closer than Campbell so I want to play up. Or hey Harrison is close and won't kill us so let me play down. I am still in favor of play where you are supposed to play and be done with it. No playing up or down. We have 6 classes for a reason.

Raceland in a three team district. Another poster mentioned Berea coming in this district, I know that they (khsaa) are looking at travel distance as one factor. Berea at one time was in Raceland's district so although it's a bit of a driving distance I could see them moving to this district. Nicholas Co. was the other team in the district, Berea is a further distance from our NEKY area but not all that great of a difference (Raceland/Fairview driving time to Berea a little over 2 hrs.. Other than Nicholas, I can't think of any that would be closer and that would even up both of those districts with four teams each.

So ....Berea, come on down ! :thumb:

Not really. Better comparison would be Holmes OR Harrison Co. (Ashland was in the "paired" district facing HHS / CCH in the playoffs. Grant Co. is in the actual district.)

A: Looks really good for the schools in EKY like Hazard and Pikeville, but at the end of the day, Beechwood has been the cream of the crop in that class and will continue to be until proven otherwise.

 

2A: NCC at the top, up and comers Cal & DeSales in the same district, then add the tradition of Danville, Lexington Christian, Somerset, Prestonsburg, Owensboro Catholic, Glasgow, and others such as Middlesboro providing quality depth from a variety of districts, which should make the playoffs quite interesting.

 

3A: Boyle County's tradition still rules, but is waning, and Lexington Catholic is closing in fast. You can usually count on some to many years of contending from Belfry and Bell County. Throw in some good Corbin, Elizabethtown, Paducah Tilghman, and Breathitt County teams and you've got yourself the deepest class in the state, and that's even before you consider schools like Russell, Bardstown, Lawrence County,

 

4A: I think Warren Central, John Hardin, and Collins are probably liking their pairings. Johnson Central and Blazer in the same district could be interesting according to how things progress.

 

5A: Two of the top 3 teams in the region will be in the same district (Highlands and Covington Catholic)... Bowling Green awaits later.

 

6A: Like Trinity and X being in separate districts. Like the Lexington area metros (i.e., including GRC, Mad Cen, Scott Co) being split over two districts. All of the groups/districts aren't even, but they have logical ordering when it comes to travel, etc.

In 2A this is an interesting district: District 6 – Bath County, Holy Cross (Covington), Lloyd Memorial, Newport, Newport Central Catholic, West Carter. Bath County and West Carter in with the Northern Kentucky district? There will be some good driving times here.

UH! I don't know about you but in 2-A I think you can put Mayfield in the tradition part of the list, MAYBE at the top of the list of all 2-A.

1-A is a little screwy because of Fort Knox and South Floyd. Fort Knox is still 2-A enrollment FOR NOW, but will not be when new alignment takes effect. Knox is losing THOUSANDS of soldiers by July. Even the Hardin schools will be hurt by this (for people who live in E'town, Radcliff and Vine Grove but work at Knox).

 

1-A is also affected by South Floyd, which will be consolidating soon. However, they still need a place to play before they go bye-bye.

 

Shocked to see Berea in the west. Especially since it is 80 miles east of Louisville Holy Cross.

 

As far as the rotating playoffs in 6-A, it will be changing.

 

For example, the Central Hardin-Meade district has the Scott County district in the playoffs for 14.

15 is WKY.

The other ones will rotate because of the "fifth team." The KHSAA doesn't want the fifth team to be forced to travel forever (Boone going to WKY for a first-round game), but it also doesn't want a district rematch in the first round of the playoffs every year (which would be possibilities if you did NOT rotate).

 

Thus, the KHSAA came up with its solution, trying to take the best of both worlds.

 

I know it is easy to jump on the KHSAA, but this solution makes sense when you dive deeper into "why" it looks the way it does.

While true... it stands to reason that it is a lot more conducive to winning a ring when you only have to play one great evenly matched team as opposed to 3 or 4 of them.

 

Many a great team have been narrowly defeated in the Regional Finals only to see the team that beat them steamroll through their next two opponents.

I would disagree with the placement of the Northern Kentucky schools for this reason; Cooper and Connor chose to play up. They are currently 5A schools and created part of this mess. Send them to a Louisville district and move Ohio County into the Hardin County district out west and your problem is solved. Then one plays two, three plays four, five plays six, and seven plays eight. Then you get some continuity among the classes.
