In 2A this is an interesting district: District 6 – Bath County, Holy Cross (Covington), Lloyd Memorial, Newport, Newport Central Catholic, West Carter. Bath County and West Carter in with the Northern Kentucky district? There will be some good driving times here.

 

Neither team thought this alignment was a possibility considering both are closer to most or all teams in the new D7 and D8. I honestly figured Bath Co would go with LCA/Danville in D7 since it is less than an hour from Lexington and West would go with P'burg in D8. Not only is the travel to NKY 2+ hours but many schools depend upon the gate ticket sales from football games. Especially district games. You now will have 5 home games and 2 of the typically larger tickets will be the smallest. No matter who you are only the diehard fans are going to travel from Newport to Olive Hill.

Having weaknesses exploited and knowing what to work on for playoffs and district play. That is the case when playing any good team.

I wasn't referring to Grant County. There are many schools in NKY that would benefit from playing Highlands and CCH.

I don't see much upside to teams like Harrison County, Grant County, Dayton, Bellevue, Ludlow, Lloyd, or Brossart matching up against Highlands or Cov Cath with any kind of regularity. You need to play the best to beat the best, and beat the best to be the best....but there are some teams that need to learn how to play the decent to beat the decent, and beat the decent to be the decent. Getting stomped isn't much benefit to a lot of the teams around NKY.

The 5A and 6A schools who don't play them, without a doubt.....to an extent. Simon Kenton definitely should

 

Boone County and Ryle, with either new 1 year HC's at the helm or a new HC who hasn't coached them yet I would say no...not yet.

 

Cooper...Conner, I'm guessing there is some merit to argue those two should. But, Cooper ('12 Class 5A State Runner Up or not) is still in the infancy of their program, and Conner...I'd be interested in seeing how they do A.D.B before I would give them the 'go'.

 

Then again (and, I'm a HUGE Highlands fan in every sense of the word. I love everything about their program), Highlands actually looked mortal this year in the few times I saw them on film and in the finals. Some will disagree and some will agree, but never let their pride admit it (I totally get that), but Collins was the better team this year, IMO. So, with that said...I'm not so sure how much risk it would actually be for Conner/Cooper to schedule them (not indicating in ANY way that they are ready to beat Highlands).

Raceland in a three team district. Another poster mentioned Berea coming in this district, I know that they (khsaa) are looking at travel distance as one factor. Berea at one time was in Raceland's district so although it's a bit of a driving distance I could see them moving to this district. Nicholas Co. was the other team in the district, Berea is a further distance from our NEKY area but not all that great of a difference (Raceland/Fairview driving time to Berea a little over 2 hrs.. Other than Nicholas, I can't think of any that would be closer and that would even up both of those districts with four teams each.

I'm hearing that's a very real possibility that they may opt out and go east. That hike to Ft. Knox is a long one, and the ride to Caverna's not much better.

How important will the Boyle County/LexCath regular season game be you ask?

If you are LexCath that is a path of teams with a combined 32 Finals Appearances (21 Titles and 11 Runner-Ups) standing between you and a Title with only one game at home in Odd years.

 

The west side of the bracket is ridiculously loaded in 3A. Very unbalanced west v. east, but there's not much really that could be done.

Beechwood will be the cream of the crop now but they weren't when Mayfield was in.

 

Mayfield is one of the top schools and you left them out of 2A.

Beechwood has, and always will be the best team in 1A until they move them out of 1A....just stop. :laugh:
