Mercer county is a great job, whoever gets that position should be a ready made coach that has had prior success.

Great facilities, not so sure that it is a great job. Parental pressure??

What do you mean? Why would you say that?

I think there would probably be some "pressure" there but not sure about parental pressure??? More likely "peer pressure." Lots of success since the merger at that school in almost all other sports: girls basketball, softball, baseball, track, and boys and girls soccer. Football had past success and now seems to be on solid ground again and building. When you are in that type of atmosphere, there has to be some "pressure" due to the performance expectations. I wouldn't expect that to scare away a confident coach. Instead, I'd think it would attract them.

Nelson Cundiff went 22-10 and lost in the Region finals and the Mercer County fans I spoke with complained about him the entire time. Brian Britt went to the Region Semifinals twice in four years and was let go. Are there more to these stories? Maybe so. But none of the reasons for why those two coaches left/were let go have ever been told.

It would appear that it is state tournament or bust for Mercer County basketball, something that has proven to be unrealistic in the 60 or so years that the school has been in operation. I don't question or fault high expectations, but it would appear their two previous coaches were doing pretty well.

I heard thru the grapevine that there were 36 applicants and interviews could start as early as today. Nothing confirmed just what I've been hearing.

36 applicants? If they all get a chance to interview, they should get this done by the first of August!

Well, I do know that there's a new administration in place over the past 3 years. The "bad" years there seemed to be for the first 3 years after the merger. But, girls basketball and baseball coaches have been in place for the past 15 years. As far as Cundiff goes, I know that there were major post merger issues there. His downfall, whether deserved or not, was due to a very specific issue - not based upon record at all. I don't have any inside info on that; I only know what was printed - literally, what I read. It was very well publicized. Surely you read about it.

Again, I say this not to blast the school or Coach Cundiff as I don't have a clue what happened there. My point is that, when something just doesn't make sense on the surface, there's usually more to the story than meets the eye.

Lastly, parents are parents. Win 30 games and my son still didn't play enough. Win only 10 and my son didn't play enough and now that's the reason you only won 10.

Agreed, First. I don't recall the Cundiff issue being printed, but I think I remember the issue. Either way, that's the past. But the point you made about prolonged success in girls basketball and baseball proves the point that you have to give a coach a little room to grow. Hopefully whoever it is that they hire, that growing season will be allowed.

Well now I'm hearing the cut the list to 10-12. Interviews today and tomorrow. Like I've said before it's just hear say as I've not heard anything official.

I was given 4 names today that will interview tomorrow. Not sure if any others are today or not. Source was one if the 4 candidates, so I'd say it's solid.

:thumb: can't argue with that intell

South Warren High School has to be one of the best jobs available in the STATE! Huge multimillion dollar gym that rivals some colleges... The scoreboard alone cost $75,000 dollars. Competitive district with Bowling Green and Warren Central. And one of the largest cities in the State with a Major University 10 minutes down the rd, WKU. Not to mention some amazing young talent for the next few years....

With all of that - especially the scoreboard - I would think it will likely come down to Cal or Coach K. :lol2:
