Was Holmes tacking on 2 late points "classless"? Mark Whery thinks so.

You are entitled to your capital letters shout at me. I must be getting old - tuned in during our ongoing practice session, listening through those little ear buds our players use, and my impression was that it wasn't Mark doing the Play-by-play.

Following your deserved chastisement I went back and listened to the replay, and sure enough, I OWE YOU AND THE POSTERS AN APOLOGY. Mark sure enough did the broadcast.

Classy.

Not so fast. You were right about everything else in your post. :D :thumb:

Why we just opened up Pandora's box, MTGL's most overused word in sports, I will refrain from using it in this post. I am not worried about at 17 year old kid making a meaningless basket at the end, if anything CCH can use this for inspiration if they meet again.

I want discuss Coach Listermann constantly losing it on the sidelines and getting an extremely long leash from the stripes. Rich Maile had made several comments on the broadcast last night how he was out of hand. I was not in attendance last night, but have witnessed these tirades on several occasions over the last three years.

The proper etiquette is for the head coach to work the refs and the assistants to handle the players. Somebody did not get that memo when he put back on the red sweater vest. Do you give him a pass because he was once one of yours? If Bacigaulpo or Otte acted in this manner, they would have been ran many times.

I am Switzerland on this subject, no red or blue in my closet. I respect what Mike has contributed over many decades, but he is not the head coach anymore.

This deserves it's own thread. Listerman has now gone off the last 3 times these 2 leans have played.

I am still a newbie to BGP site, have not created a thread yet, but I am baby stepping towards one. It's the elephant in the room though, Coach L is Red's guy and it is a sensitive subject for Blue to touch. There has been games when he's been restrained by Whinsey (sp?) chasing refs into the locker rooms. I just think this a bigger issue than kid scoring a meaningless basket.

The Holmes coaches never told McClendon to shoot it. He was going to just dribble the clock out and when he looked over to the Holmes bench the coaches were telling him to get out of the lane so he didnt get whistled for a 3 second call. McClendon thought they were saying shoot it so he went ahead and made the point blank lay up. Coach Booher wanted him to dribble the rest of the time out.

As others have stated, really not a big deal.

I find it ironic that some think it is fine for the broadcaster to criticize the player but seem offended when others criticize the announcer.

I think the CCH broadcasts, like almost all school broadcasts, are homerism at its finest. I often find comments on the broadcast irritating. At the same time, I say thank you very much to every volunteer putting in the time and effort to do these school broadcasts. Irritating or not, I will be thankfully listening and hoping more homers step up to do these broadcasts at other schools.

I dont mind the homerism...hell I would do it if it were me. Mark and Rich do a great job in fact I hear both critical of their own team's miscues at times. 499 broadcasts is impressive...Nice work !!!

As far as the basket rubbing salt in the wounds of the Cov Cath kids....well if they get a rematch in the Finals I guess the Colonels can issue some payback.

You all really need to find some better topics to post about.

100% incorrect. Mark has taken his school to task more than any school's broadcaster.

Because you've heard them all I assume.

Guilty to your charge. However, knowing Mark as I do I'd be 100% comfortable with going out on that limb.

It's only classless if you had CCH +8!!!

This makes sense. The bench was waving their arms. It was all so fast... lots of adrenaline

Ironic...once the truth is out about how classless the Bulldogs were, when realistically McClendon didn't hear correctly what to do, there isn't many more comments. WOW!!! Is all can say!!!

It is worth pointing out that a total of ZERO CCH posters have Holmes' actions classless...

For what it's worth, AME1981, I don't think this was classless at all. I saw an energy infused kid with a ball in his hand who was not sure what he was suppose to do in the final seconds.

I really hate that this is all being muddied up for McClendon and Holmes.
