Was Holmes tacking on 2 late points "classless"? Mark Whery thinks so.

Featured Replies

I listened to the game. Mark Whery did not do the play by play last night, so you owe him a public apology.

We (Brossart and CovCath) and anyone who do high school streams for their schools, are physically and emotionally attached to that program. I'm sure that we do come off as biased. I also try to maintain a degree of professionalism, but sometimes make critical observations that might come off being slanted. I'm also critical of our team when we make mental mistakes. I also attempt to give credit where credit is due.

Do we get caught up in the emotion of the moment??? We sure do. Sometimes I listen to our replay, and think to myself that it wasn't as exciting as I make it sound. I guess that's why our fans love us, and our opponents occasionally take exception. We are what we are, but first and foremost we are fans of our own teams. No one forces anyone to listen to the broadcasts, but on a given night we might have 150 listeners and 75 listen to the replay, so we must be doing something right.

Why we just opened up Pandora's box, MTGL's most overused word in sports, I will refrain from using it in this post. I am not worried about at 17 year old kid making a meaningless basket at the end, if anything CCH can use this for inspiration if they meet again.

I want discuss Coach Listermann constantly losing it on the sidelines and getting an extremely long leash from the stripes. Rich Maile had made several comments on the broadcast last night how he was out of hand. I was not in attendance last night, but have witnessed these tirades on several occasions over the last three years.

The proper etiquette is for the head coach to work the refs and the assistants to handle the players. Somebody did not get that memo when he put back on the red sweater vest. Do you give him a pass because he was once one of yours? If Bacigaulpo or Otte acted in this manner, they would have been ran many times.

I am Switzerland on this subject, no red or blue in my closet. I respect what Mike has contributed over many decades, but he is not the head coach anymore.

Never thought of it before now. Someone mentioned it earlier. Neither one of CCH radio announcers are Alumni of CCH.

Have you ever heard the expression, Its not over until the fat lady sings,,well she had not sung yet..... What was really classless, was the the member of the crazies bounceing around with his shirt removed .......................

:ohbrother:

This thread is pointless. Holmes scoring was really not a big deal, and as Mustang said the commentators are emotionally attached to their teams. Cut Wehry some slack. Last night was his 499th CCH broadcast for not a single penny. No one is perfect.

I don*t have a dog in this fight either,,,but why would Listermans functions concern you?

May give you time to polish your reading comprehension skills so you can identify what someone is actually saying.

Last time I made a comment like this to AME1981, actually told him to "seek medical help", I got this.......:lol2:ame1981.jpg

YES MARK DID DO THE BROADCAST LAST NIGHT.

He only called it classless because it was holmes who won. If it had been the other way around it would have been fine right. Get out of here with that

100% incorrect. Mark has taken his school to task more than any school's broadcaster.

Win by 8 or win by 10.

Much ado about nothing.

With time about to expire at the end of double OT, Bulldogs up 8, there was a run out. Mark made the observation that Holmes was gong to let the clock run out in a classy move. His follow up comment was in the context of correcting his observation that the Bulldogs were going to let the clock run out without taking the layup.

Mark has been highly complimentary of the Bulldogs over the years and was again last night. He noted the Bulldog's high level of play and positive adjustments made in response to the regular season game. He called upon the Will Rogers quote that the rumors of the Bulldogs' demise have been greatly exaggerated. A review of the broadcast will reveal many additional compliments.

I would put Mark in the category of many Covington native, Covington Catholic fans (like me) who pull for the Colonels but when Holmes advances, pull for the Bulldogs. (One of my most vivid memories of a state tournament game was Holmes' Saturday morning comeback against Lex. Cath. when fans in Newport Catholic pullovers, Covington Catholic hats and Holy Cross vests were on their feet in support.)

Mark stayed on the air after the loss on Saturday to broadcast the All Tournament Team, James Bolden receiving the MVP award and Holmes receiving the Championship Trophy. Mark stayed on the air after the Cov. Cath/Dixie regular season game at the BOK arena to broadcast the Bulldogs game against Newport Catholic.

As mentioned above, Mark has 499 broadcasts under his belt. All for free.

Apology - no. Vote of thanks - definitely yes.

You know I don't think there is such a thing as "running up the score" on your rivals, so I have no issue with beating your rival as bad as you can, so obviously I have no issue with Holmes scoring the last 2.

Cov Cath has pressed with their starters several times this year late in blowouts (again I really don't care - this isn't my point). I rarely listen to Mark (other than HHS/CC football games for obvious reasons), but has Mark been critical of this pattern? If he has then he should fire away at Holmes for scoring the last 2. :)

YES MARK DID DO THE BROADCAST LAST NIGHT.

You are entitled to your capital letters shout at me. I must be getting old - tuned in during our ongoing practice session, listening through those little ear buds our players use, and my impression was that it wasn't Mark doing the Play-by-play.

Following your deserved chastisement I went back and listened to the replay, and sure enough, I OWE YOU AND THE POSTERS AN APOLOGY. Mark sure enough did the broadcast.
