I still do not understand why I need to walk through a smoke filled casino to get to the elevator to my room. It was so sad to see older people sitting for hours in front of slot machines. Wheel chair, oxygen tank, cigarette in left hand, hitting bet button as fast as possible with right hand, all with that glassy stare. Made me sick. I don't have problem with those who set limits on themselves and have fun at the tables or machines. I just don't like seeing the amount of obvious addiction at these places. My son told me that "the only person who wins in Las Vegas is the one who owns the casino". Edited February 25, 201412 yr by nkypete
February 25, 201412 yr Only if you get off the plane. It starts in the terminal. Or it ends at the terminal on the flight back. Those machines in the airport are historically the tightest in order to make sure you leave it all in Vegas.
February 25, 201412 yr Author I know what you guys are saying but I can't view it as depressing. I find it to be very enjoyable. Of course, I had a hundred dollar bill to spare and wasn't going to go over that limit regardless of what happened. I understand that not all folks can take that attitude in with them.
February 25, 201412 yr I've been to Vegas once for a few days, a casino in Evansville, Hollywood and Horseshoe. I very rarely play slots. Normally you can find me at the Blackjack table with an occasional stop at the Roulette table. I normally set a limit for myself and am pretty good about sticking to it. A few times I have gone to the casino with $20 only to leave with a few hundred dollars. My biggest pet peeve with people at the casino are those at the Blackjack table that don't know how to play and will end up doing something like hitting a 15 when the dealer is showing 5 or 6.

February 25, 201412 yr I can't even begin to try and remember all the casinos I've been to. Back in my single days where I had a 9-3 salary job, I spent literally every weekend over the course of year in Tunica. All I've ever played and will ever play is poker. My favorite by far was an Indian Casino near Phoenix called the Wild Horse casino. At the time they ran 30 something tables and they were all packed. They had ginormous tvs that encircled the entire casino. There was another one out there that I can't recall the name that ran Kill pots, splash pots twice an hour where they'd put $100 in a random pot. They also ran specials during D-back games where every time they scored a run they splash a pot with $100. Really made for some loose games. I've played in several in Biloxi that I enjoyed as well. Beltarra back in 2005 was always fun but it died when the ones closer to NKY opened.
February 25, 201412 yr I was in Gatlinburg and ended up in Cherokee, NC this weekend. As luck would have it, we stumbled upon the casino and couldn't resist checking things out. I managed to win $521 on a $1 slot machine. I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever been and figured we could tell some stories and discuss. Solid advice for a casino. Know what you are willing to lose going in. Take that in and don't hit the ATMS or anything else. Have fun, but don't expect to run the house. If you make $50-$100, great time! My favorite game is Blackjack, but I only play the minimum ($2-$5 tables) and always play at tables where they let me keep my sheet (print them out at somewhere like WizardofOdds.com), try to find one where you are only down like 55%-45% and slow, slow, slow play. Remember, the odds aren't in your favor and casinos aren't charities. Take it for what it is. Hope that helps.
February 25, 201412 yr The first place I went was the Dog Track in Cross Lanes, WV. At the time they only had dogs and slots, the latter I won a couple hundred bucks on. I was down about 400 at Hollywood Lawrenceburg the last time I was there and hit 600 on a wheel of fortune machine as I was leaving. Do like others have said take what you can afford to lose, if that happens so be it. Best case you win a couple hundred and have some fun.

Last time I went a friend of mine somehow managed to score us some sort of "all-inclusive" pass where as long as we were inside the casino, we drank for free everywhere except the nightclub. It was during the weekend of NCAA regionals, so we sat in the sportsbook at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino watching games, pouring down whiskey and carrying on like maniacs until the games ended and it was time to really make fools of ourselves by wandering out into the less predictable gaming area with tables or aimlessly wandering the strip. The primary reason Vegas is so bad for you is the types of gambling you're permitted. I don't really care for most casino gaming... but Vegas has SPORTSBOOKS. I made a killing on UofL's win over Florida and UK's win over Indiana that weekend. I also won big at roulette by betting UofL player numbers -- only time in his career Jared Swopshire came up HUGE. I of course burned through all those winnings as soon as I could. Bad. Very bad place.
