First Time at a Casino This Weekend

Featured Replies

I love Vegas because I love playing poker. I love playing poker because I control more if I will walk away winning or not a lot more than the casino.

I never go into a casino with money I can't afford to lose and those that go with the expectations of striking it rich are the ones that end up not enjoying casinos at all because they usually lose money they can't afford to and it eats at them and becomes a very depressing experience.

I love poker, it is my entertainment and when you enjoy something like that it is t about the money although it's great winning tournaments etc. when you have a bad tourney or bad night playing cash games it can eat at you, but it's not the money it's the game that eats at you.

A really big reason I love poker and Vegas so much is because I can be entertained for hours at a time off of very little money invested. Have had several marathon sessions where I would buy in a cash game for just a couple hundred and p,ay all day and night. Longest session was non stop 28 hour session and loved every minute of it. Bought in for $200 at the beginning of the session and walked away the next day up over $8,700 but it wouldn't of mattered if I lost the 200 because it was just entertainment and a blast.

This is my exact sentiments. 28 hrs is impressive. My longest is in the 12-14 range which I've done several times. I usually got a few hours sleep and went right back to the tables.

This thread outlines the reasons I don't gamble. It's way more work and effort than anything I want to do for fun.

I've always simply looked at it as a great way to be entertained for a long while at not a lot of cost.

sure there will be days where you may lose early, but the majority of the time I can play for hours on end with minimum buy in.

I'm jealous of your patience. I don't know how you do that. For me, playing poker is a lot like going fishing: after sitting there for about 30 minutes, I'm ready to stand up and say "OK, what's next?" I honestly don't know how you do it.

It's not that hard for me. I enjoy the people mostly at the tables. If you have a good table where everyone gets along, the conversation alone is great entertainment. It's like a social hour.

the last cruise I went on, they had 1 poker table in the casino on the ship and it was pretty fun that every single day the same group of us would meet at the table. Just very sociable.

That is why I love home cash games more than Vegas cash poker games, everybody is friends or friends of friends. Plus in Vegas I like the free booze too much. So in Vegas I mostly play Blackjack. I'd guess that I am at card games more than I am my regular job.

I'm in the exact same boat. Poker tables are where I would be best served spending my time but the grind is too much for me. I pay Ultimate Hold Em on the floor though.

I also don't like playing vs. people that I am not sure if they are pros or semi pros or whatever. I like to play with people I know and I am confident playing against.

Play in 3 leagues and have been playing with a group at a weekly game for the past 7 years every Saturday. The only draw back from that is everybody knows how everyone p,ays which after times can lead you to not being as sharp etc IMO. I like mixing it up and playing with new people now and then just to see if my reads and what I think are tells are still sharp etc.

Is it normally easy to hit a big one on slot machines or was I just in the right place at the right time?

Slot machines, if I'm not mistaken, are the biggest money makers for the casino when it comes to all the different gambling games.

Well there were hundreds of people playing them too. I'd guess they are the most popular games.

Right place at the right now.

I understand a little bit, but I'd much rather play a game that I am going to beat in the long run than to play where I am not for sure if I am the best or the worst?

Here's a good question...let's say you have $200 to waste and want to have some fun. Which game or games gives you the best opportunity to turn that into, say, $1,000 in one night?

Blackjack is the best odds in a casino. Having said that it is still house advantage even if you play perfect strategy. See chart below for odds in Vegas on Blackjack. Odds are math. In the long run you can't beat it without doing what the MIT folks did, which Vegas deems illegal.

Great movie, if you like Blackjack.
