February 25, 201412 yr Taught my wife blackjack basic strategy on the plane the first time we went to Vegas. It was worth the effort. She usually wins more than I do.
February 25, 201412 yr It is a shame that some people can't enjoy it for what it is. An entertainment destination. If you go expecting to win you're in trouble. If everyone or most understood this philosophy Vegas would shut down. They prey on lowering inhibitions and distracting the fact that a silly colorful chip is really money. I love it but it is a bad place if you are not careful.
February 25, 201412 yr If you set a spending limit for yourself and stick to it, casinos can be a lot of fun.
February 25, 201412 yr I hit a penny machine at Belterra for $4000 last March playing the max bet. We are over there all the time considering we live five minutes away. Never had to pay for anything over there. Don't know if that's a good thing or not.

February 25, 201412 yr Author I wanted to try one of the dealer games like Blackjack or something but I was intimidated. I thought those games were somewhat simple but then when I looked at the boards, there were things on there I don't understand. Any of you know anything about those games? If I post pics can you explain what some of that stuff is?

February 25, 201412 yr Author Ok, first example: roulette.... I always thought you just simply picked a number or a color and placed a bet on it. Then I look at the table and see all the stuff on the sides like 3rd 12 and 2 to 1 and all that stuff. What is that? Is it more complicated than I thought? I was afraid to try it as I figured I would just be donating money to the casino:
February 25, 201412 yr Ask the dealer, they have cards listing all the odds. It really is easy and they help you if you ask.
February 25, 201412 yr At the roulette wheel, you can make different bets based on the odds of those things happening. For example, seeing the 2-to-1 on the bottom of each column means that your bet will pay off 2 dollars for every 1 dollar bet. You're betting that the number that will come up is one of the numbers in that vertical column. The other spaces are for other variations you can bet and the payouts vary based on how likely it is for that result to happen (and so it evens out with the house).

February 25, 201412 yr Well I guess when you walk in that first time, it's just a little overwhelming. I wasn't sure if you can even ask the dealers for help or not. Most of the games are already set up so that things come out ahead or at least even up for the house. The house also just wants to keep you at the table. So the dealers are usually more than happy to explain things to you, especially if the room isn't very crowded. The dealers are also helpful because they really like getting tipped when you win.
February 25, 201412 yr What's the best way to bet at the roulette wheel? What pays the most? An individual number will pay off the most. It's also the toughest to hit. The payout for hitting a single number is 35-1. Roulette is a strange game of complete chance. A have a friend who loves it and he swears up and down that the best thing to do is to bet on several individual numbers at once because when you hit at 35-1, you can make up for losses quickly. It's how I won at roulette when I was last in Las Vegas. I was betting the same UofL basketball roster numbers over and over again. Just luck and timing as to whether you come out ahead.
