Side note...someone please tell Pangallo to swallow his whistle. Dude was terrible at both ends. Also, when a player asks for an explanation of a call, you don't just smile and laugh in their face and not respond. He did this tonight when Bolden asked how the ball was off of him and not Schult late in the game.

 

Was also surprised Schult didn't get T'd up for yelling in Hill's face (taunting) late in the game when CVH got the and one to put the Colonels up 10. O'Hara? was standing right there watching it go on and didn't step in to say something until the two started jawing while waiting for the FT and he only said something to Hill.

 

Those two interactions late in the game really stood out to me.

Sorry I missed this one, although I'd probably been ticked with my Bulldogs losing. Got off the plane in Hartford and immediately saw the score when I booted up BGP. I thought, wow, Dr. Lit may be right. Can't comment on the game obviously, but kudos to the Blue Colonels. Just watching box scores against really good teams, the Bulldogs seem to only get scoring from Chames and Bolden. Although Holmes is very good it appears, you gotta get more help from others against quality teams. Chames and Bolden can play for anybody in the state, I think it drops off significantly from there. Let's see if they can develop some more scorers in the next six weeks. Hopefully, being home next week I'll get to see the 'dogs play. I have kinda' said all year that this team is not nearly as good as last year's and it sounds like that may be the case ( I think LB and I discussed this earlier in the year and he tended to agree, but I could be mistaken and it's too late for me to look it up). Holmes lost 3 really key players last year and it is hard to replace that talent. I also will say that I was WRONG at the start of the season saying that it was NCC and Holmes in the 9th and no one else can compete with them. I shoulda' known better. Again congrats to CCH.

Exactly. Credit Covcath for knocking down shots, but I'll be VERY SURPRISED if they shoot that well again this season. 70% is just unreal. I don't care if they're wide open or contested shots.

In the past Nick R would have forced action. Tonight may have been his best overall game he's had. He got everyone good looks. Didn't take bad shots. Got to the rim and drew fouls. Stroked the ball pretty well. Had some great moves.

I'll get back to you after I rewatch the film but Covcath also hit their fair share of mid range jumpers. The jumper in the corner near the baseline was almost automatic for the Colonels tonight.

The Colonels are the better team, it is that simple at this stage. They have five starters that can score and they share the basketball. Having seen Ruthsatz play this year compared to last year it is very clear that he is not looking for his shot first. The VonHandorff kid had a whale of a game and made open shots. He didn't have very many that were contested but he made open looks. Just an impressive starting five for CovCath and the subs played their roles very well. I thought they got into transition and usually found the open man. Very unselfish group and will be a tough out in March.

Does anyone have any idea what CovCath's shooting percentage at Holmes the last two meetings?

The Bulldogs were pretty poor on defense all night particularly on rotations. Credit CovCath's passing and shooting. On offense, Holmes is in need of a 3rd person to step up and score and keep teams honest. McClendon was hurt with foul trouble early and they have to find a way to keep Hill on the court because it takes a load off of Chames in the post.

Key juncture of the game which was alluded to earlier and that was Chames missing the free throws, but if I recall correctly, He missed what would have been a monster jam off the baseline and in which CovCath quickly got it up court and scored, then came the missed free throws.

Bolden was OK tonight and he did get frustrated at times, but he is going to have to cut down on turnovers and maybe a few less "heat check" jump shots.

Was he visibly frustrated and we have seen that a time or two but tonight he seemed to wear a little more emotion on his sleeve. Did they get into his head? Maybe to an extent but I think he was getting frustrated with the inconsistency of the hand checks or lack of calls.

Case in point. Right off the bat, Bolden fires his first shot with an off the dribble three and got hit on the arm by CVH and no call. Ensuing possession the officials fall for the Ruthsatz flop and McClendon picks up his first. CVH was face guarding and was allowed to put two hands on him on cuts and dribble drives. Those are fouls. He should shoot more free throws than he does. If teams are going to be allowed to body him or steer him with hands he will struggle to an extent.

Is that the reason they lost? No but could be a part of his frustration. I'm not trying to suggest that officials had a part of the outcome of the game but trying to shed light for his possible frustration.

Agree, but was "money". He didn't look like a frosh, played like a "seasoned veteran". WOW!!!

My buddy and I both agreed after the game that the main problem areas for Holmes are (1) rebounding ... or lack thereof; and (2) getting scoring from someone other than Bolden and Chames. The fact that Holmes didn't play much D tonight didn't bother me all that much, because we saw the same last year vs. NewCath in Game 1 ... then witnessed a complete reversal in Game 2 at NKU. I think some of what happened tonight is due to the fact that Holmes hadn't played in 10 days or so.

 

Having said that, this was a most impressive effort from CovCath. I opined in another thread earlier this week that CovCath might be the best team in the 9th Region, and was shot down for making said statement. If you're a CovCath fan, you must hope that tonight's effort can be duplicated at NKU two months from now.

First time seeing CVH during the regular season and he is indeed impressive. He has better quickness than I realized as well. Looked like a much different player than what I saw against Mason Co in the preseason.

CVH is a stud,super smooth with a textbook shot! The kid really got into beetles head! Was very impressed with CCH tonight!

One word...Exposed. This was a total team effort by CCH and was the definiition of TEAM. By exposed I am refering to CCH figuring out you cannot stop Bolden so you contain him with TEAM defense. They packed it in and made it virtually impossible for Beetle to penetrate and do work. While CVH did rip Bolden twice it was his teammates that provided great help in "containing" him. Pretty darn good strategy which everyone else needs to take notice. Contain Beetle and concede he will get his 25 and make somebody else on this team try and beat you. Point #2, HHS failure to take advantage of some serious foul trouble by the CCH bigs by getting the ball inside was major problem IMO. Chames ruled the boards and CCH had no answer inside for him but HHS couldn't get him the ball. Point #3 the dawgs offense was painful to watch. WAAAAAY too much standing around watching Beetle dribble the ball!! There wasn't much set offense being ran and converserely CCH looked like the movie Hoosiers playing team ball and running "sets". In the big scheme of things this is just one win in the possible 3 times these two teams may meet so HHS has plenty of time to fix some of the above and make a serious run again.

 

You can call me crazy but Bolden is the best scorer in NKY and possibly the entire State bar none, he cannot be stopped as he WILL get "his" BUT Nick R. is by far the best PG in the truest and purest since of the position. Totally runs CCH and it is going to be difficult to stop him from doing as such, again just one man's opinion. The one-handed lay-up was truly old-skool (if you were at the game you know which one I'm talking about).

 

This was my first time seeing CCH play this year and everyone better look out because this team might just win this region and after what I witnessed last nite this poster will NOT be surprised one bit. I may have a different opiniion tomorrow after watching NCC play tonite but as of this morning I won't be shocked to see any of the Big 3 make it to Rupp.

Am at work and all I am going to say is, back to practice and NCC on Friday!
