Covcath is the real deal and a legit top 10 team in the state. Their physical play really frustrated Holmes at times tonight. Offensively, they had an answer for every Holmes run.

 

Newcath will have their hands full Friday night. Covcath's depth is going to give a lot of teams problems.

 

I'm assuming that before tonight you considered the Bulldogs a legit top 5, but after tonight the Colonels are ONLY a legit top 10? Seriously? Were the Bulldogs rated too high then? I know you hate me right now and perhaps the game hasn't been over long enough to call you out like this.

Holmes was overrated being in the top 5. I have no problem saying it. Defensively, they didn't look like a top 10 team tonight and looked more like the #14 ranking that they had in the one poll. They gave Covcath good looks and to the Colonels credit, they knocked them down, hence the 70% shooting. Holmes' also used poor shot selection at times that led to long rebounds and easy CCH points at the other end. I felt they should've been a little more patient at times and they weren't. You can't do that against good teams like Covcath and expect to win.

 

I said before the game that Covcath was in the 10-15 range. After seeing them tonight, I'd have them in 5-10 range. A win over Newcath on Friday night and you're talking about a team with one of the best resume in the state.

 

I still think Holmes is a DAMN GOOD team, but they have some things they need to work on. It's January 7th. Let's not forget Holmes went to Covcath last year undefeated and beat the Colonels in similar fashion. Covcath got revenge in the district finals at Holmes. Maybe the same will happen for Holmes at the end of Feb at Covcath? Who knows. Still a lot of basketball to be played.

 

The only thing I can say is I feel for Holy Cross Friday night. I wouldn't want to play Holmes after a loss like they were handed tonight.

I was thinking the exact same thing. They're gonna seriously be putting a hard smack up on them Indians for sure.

CovCath's passing tonight was textbook. They made smart passes, good passes and always seemed to make the extra pass. It was a passing clinic. I believe that is what led to all the great, open looks they had... hence the high percentage in shooting.

Exactly. Credit Covcath for knocking down shots, but I'll be VERY SURPRISED if they shoot that well again this season. 70% is just unreal. I don't care if they're wide open or contested shots.
