I know four of those five and they all are a little suspicious. :sssh:

I'm not sure I recognize the guy in the back left.

Don't know him, is he suspicious? :bunny:

Wait, I've met you now....are you suspicious? ;)

Pretty much like Bolden falls down backwards after each attempt at a three! It's part of their game but like Clyde said, Ruth hasn't done it much this year :idunno:

Agree, but it does get kind of old. The kid is a special talent, but the "theatrics" are a bit much.

2nd Bolded first: Yes... awesome dazzling lay up by Ruthsatz. :thumb:

1st Bolded: Year in and year out Holmes has a strong talented lineup with tons of potential. Taking nothing away from them because they have numerous trips to Rupp in their resume to prove that they have what it takes to get out of the 9th, and in 2009 proved they also could bring the state crown home.

With that said, the lack of running offensive sets has been something lacking with them year after year. With all that talent, I can't help but think how much better they could've been year after year with a disciplined offensive approach to complement their fantastic natural abilities.

I have to believe that the present coaching staff of Booher/Listerman want to see them execute offensive sets too, and must have drilled them in practice to do so. I'm also assuming that Henley in the past made this attempt as well.

The Bulldog players had first row seats last night in how a disciplined team gets it done, as the Colonels displayed it pretty much right in their faces.

If the Holmes coaching staff is ill-effective in making the players follow this, then I have to believe that CovCath's demonstration of it should've grabbed their attention giving them first hand knowledge that it behooves them to start executing like so, as the coaching staff undoubtedly has tried in the past to impress upon them.

Perhaps Booher could show the kids films of his Shelby Valley State Champs team to let them see what it means to follow his style and perhaps it would encourage them to take a crack at it.

I guess Coach Booher and Coach Henley have all of a sudden taken "dumb pills"? I mean whatever they have done in the past was successful and they have the hardware to prove it. Both did it multiple times and frankly not many can say that they have accomplished what these coaches have done.

I just don't think that they just rolled the balls out there and said go get'm. You don't think they run plays?

Ball screening is pretty much the go to offense at the college and pro levels. Holmes does a lot of that, but to say they do not run sets is not true.

Bobby Knight is considered one of the greatest coaches of all time. What kind of sets did he run? None! He ran a perpetual motion that was dictated off player movement.

I'm not quite following some of these posts but there is seemingly some thought that one team plays basketball the right way and the other team doesn't?

CovCath is the better team and they played very well and won. Holmes didn't play well and part of that was due to the play of the Colonels.

This was one game and the death of Coach Booher/Coach Henley's philosophy has been greatly exaggerated.

I failed to give proper props to Parker Keller last night.

Kid is one of those we should celebrate. Got cut from the frosh team. Kept working and tried out for JV. Probably was one of the last players to make it. Didn't get a lot of minutes. Came back and made the team again as a JR. Played JV with very few varsity minutes. Had a great summer . Tough kid despite his smaller stature. He played a lot of minutes last night in the role of face-guarding Bolden. Again, Bolden got his but it took a lot of effort, dribbling, and time to do so. Parker was part of the reason.

I'd have lost a lot of lunches if you said years ago that Parker Keller would be playing in a HUGE game guarding a future D1 guard and challenged me to a lunch.

Fortunately, I didn't take that wager but I'd be thrilled to pay them off just because of the great story.

Thanks so much for sharing. I love these kind of stories of kids that don't give up and give their all. My type of player.

Just heard that the Freshman game against NCC has been moved to next Friday, January 17th, at 6PM.

First off, it was great meeting for the first time several of the regular posters on here. Unfortunately in a setting like this you don't get a chance to converse a lot and really get to know one another, but hopefully that will come with one of the get togethers.

I'm glad I made the trip up. Unfortunately we had a game cancelled which is why I had the night open, but if I can't be coaching, then 2nd best thing is watching some good basketball. here is what I took away from the game.

1. I love me some Ruthsatz at pg. That's the kind of kid I want leading my team. Tough, smart, driven. You want Ruthsatz with that? Yes please.

2. CCH played very very good team basketball and played very smart.

3. That CVH kid is sweet and has a very bright future. If I didn't know better, no way would I have guessed he was just a freshman.

4. Bolden in very talented and has a great release on his 3. With that said, at least 2 or 3 of his 3's just shouldn't have gone in as off balance and out of position as he was when he shot the ball. I know he can hit those as he showed last night, but as a coach I would hate to have to depend on him hitting shots like that every game, or at least in big games. I just have to think some nights they just aren't going to fall. Then what?

5. Chames was a beast on the boards and it sure seemed like he had more than 11 rebounds. He kept this game close with his work on the boards.

6. I was not impressed with Holmes' defensive effort. This will have to get better than what I saw last night if they want to win region.

7. As someone mentioned above, a lot of standing around waiting for Bolden to do something. Somebodys gonna have to take the initiative and step up. I saw several times, while Bolden was being face guarded, the ballhandler could have exploited and attacked on Bolden's side, help defense would have been non existent because of the tight face guarding and something positive for Holmes probably could/would have happened.

8. CCH travels well and there were probably as many CCH fans there as Holmes fans. Holmes student section???

9. Boher knows how to coach and I'm sure he will learn from last night and fix it.

10. Wish I could be there Friday night, but won't be able to make it unfortunately.

Humanity is a funny thing, isnt' it? Oh...but I digress.

You are saying in response to what I said: I guess Coach Booher and Coach Henley have all of a sudden taken "dumb pills"? I mean whatever they have done in the past was successful and they have the hardware to prove it. Both did it multiple times and frankly not many can say that they have accomplished what these coaches have done.

I originally said: Year in and year out Holmes has a strong talented lineup with tons of potential. Taking nothing away from them because they have numerous trips to Rupp in their resume to prove that they have what it takes to get out of the 9th, and in 2009 proved they also could bring the state crown home.

... and also...

Perhaps Booher could show the kids films of his Shelby Valley State Champs team to let them see what it means to follow his style and perhaps it would encourage them to take a crack at it.

You are saying in response to what I said: I just don't think that they just rolled the balls out there and said go get'm. You don't think they run plays?

You also said: Ball screening is pretty much the go to offense at the college and pro levels. Holmes does a lot of that, but to say they do not run sets is not true.

I'll respond to that by saying: Theoretically you can call anything within the game of basketball where you have players dribbling, passing, and shooting the ball and "offensive set", but giving it the title of "offensive set" when there isn't anything planned, or apparently not much planned about it would be giving too much credit to it by giving it the tag of "offensive set" when by comparison to true "offensive sets" that teams practice and effectively execute within a game that are the worthy type of "offensive sets" of which I, and others speak, and was demonstrated by the Colonels.

Having the ball mostly, and one dimensionally in Bolden's hands, where he dribbles around waiting for an opportunity to shoot or penetrate, as good as he is, is hardly an "offensive set" that can share the tag of "offensive set", with true "offensive sets".

In summary, I'm saying that you ignored everything I said judging by your response, and hopefully by me reiterating both yours, and my comments, you will see that you did that ad nauseam, as I'm doing in ad nauseam to take you back to square one to demonstrate.

Also in summary I gave credit for past Bulldog successes as you seem to claim I had not, and gave credit to the coaches, as you seem to claim I had not, and I said that it was obvious that the coaches practice stuff with them in practice, as you seem to claim I had not.

Unless you have issues with reading comprehension, I don't know how else you missed that.

They're a smart coaching staff, and there's no doubt in my mind that they've tried stuff with the team in practice, that the team will disregard, and wing it their own way during games.

Hence the idea that if they could get them to follow what they've undoubtedly followed in practice, these outstandingly talented players could also be and exceptional outstanding team.

With lesser teams, their speed carries them a long way, as has been demonstrated over the years by their successes.

When facing teams like CovCath that are disciplined, them winging a quick street ball game with "showtime" included will not always work in their favor, and perhaps the loss to the Colonels sent the message home to them loudly and clearly.

(Example: Chames' missed dunk when he could've easily laid it off the glass, netting him the exact same 2 points the missed dunk had not.)

Again... humanity is a funny thing, isn't it? ... Oh... But I digress...

This.

Holmes is still a damn good team. Covcath had one of the best shooting nights a team has had against Holmes in A LONG TIME. Covcath got looks around the rim but after seeing highlights and the film, they also knocked down their fair share of mid range jumpers.

Can't wait for round II at Covcath in about a month and a half.

How many of those mid-range jumpers were contested? I'd guess very few. Schult hit one from the baseline corner in the 2nd half. Other than that, most of them were very, very good looks.

I'll have highlights up before the end of the night...I'll let you guys be the judges for yourselves.

CVH has a very good looking lefty jumper, though. Smooth.

Hopefully this attempt to parse the quote that I disagreed with appears correctly.

My point may have gotten lost in the overall gist of your comments. I just beg to differ with your assessment and pretty much your allusion to doing it the "right way versus the wrong way". I say this because despite their run of success and particularly against CovCath, you want to talk about disciplined approaches. Essentially, you are saying Holmes won despite being not being disciplined.

You say how much better could the be if they ran sets. Coach Henley's team makes multiple trips to the Sweet 16 Elite 8, Runner Up and then State Champions, but they were not disciplined.

I would suggest to you that his formula was pretty good.

Coach Booher's team runs the gauntlet of NCC, Cooper and CovCath and then takes eventual State Champs into OT in the Elite Eight.

I guess if they ran some Flex, Carolina Motion , Open Post, Four Out and One in they would be a better team and had more success.

If I recall correctly, Holmes has had a string of victories over CovCath until the district game last year. I guess they did something right with their approach.

Then again, may be you take your personnel and find a system that fits their skill sets.

CovCath was very good last night and frankly they probably are the better team this year, but for a while now CovCath has had a front row seat in how you win games and region championships.

For the 3rd time:

I originally said: Year in and year out Holmes has a strong talented lineup with tons of potential. Taking nothing away from them because they have numerous trips to Rupp in their resume to prove that they have what it takes to get out of the 9th, and in 2009 proved they also could bring the state crown home.

If you would like to add to this as you have: "Essentially, you are saying Holmes won despite being not being disciplined".

I will answer "Yes", in the sense of discipline meaning running a definable disciplined offense. The Bulldogs do not have a history in recent years of doing so, but they've had a tremendous amount of talent that has been able to be successful mostly attributed to fantastic athletic ability, quickness, and good shooters getting the ball in the hole.

Is that enough to get it done? As they have shown, quite often it is. For a lot of fans, that's enough for them too. Logically you could even add "Isn't that all that matters if they win?"

If it is for you, who am I to say what your expectations of high standards are?

For my money, I like to see fantastic athletic ability taken up a huge notch to also include a smart disciplined approach to make good teams become great teams with even greater rewards.

This Bulldogs team has the talent and potential to be the state champs. They're a really good team. They could be a great team, and I just bet that Mr. Booher feels the same, and just savors the day that he can completely reel them in even more so to have them completely buy into his philosophy that he was able to have his Shelby Valley team execute.

Somehow you must have the notion that I think they are awful or something. I most certainly do not.

CCH got good looks because Ruthsatz got them good looks. Holmes would often try to force the ball out of his hands. So the good news is they didn't let him get off . The bad news is the rest of them finished well.

So what do you do next game? Same thing and hope your D is better? Back off of the two people running at Nick?

It's not just a case of "CCH hit shots." They hit shots for a reason.

Don't know him, is he suspicious? :bunny:

Wait, I've met you now....are you suspicious? ;)

Looking at that picture I do believe he may be suspicious. Could be due to the blurriness though. I have a fear of blurry faces, they are always in videos of crimes...

And I could be suspicious, I'm not sure. Now I'm questioning myself in addition to how to pronounce your name. :isurrender:
