i thought in college the three point line is the same distance from the rim all the way around? In the NBA the corners are closer because the court is not wide enough.

For a great many of us, there's maybe a little disappointment, but it's not the end of the world. Personally, I won't be worried until mid to late February. Shoot, even then I won't be crushingly disappointed. Last night's game is over, congrats to the Cats and their fans.

I disagree that they exhibited consistent effort- who was missing on the rotations and not stopping the ball when Smith and Jones were lights out in the first half? It was as much the Twins as any other players, IMO.

 

They have not flashed like Knight did at this point in the season, IMO.

 

I stand by my statement that they need to accept a clearly defined role and consistently be that guy- Aaron, be the facilitator. Get 6-8 assists per game in conference play, limit you turnovers to 2 per game and commit to being the perimeter defender on the other team's best guard. Andrew, shoot 50/40/75%- avg. double figures PPG to go along with Randall and Young. Commit to being a defender on the perimeter.

 

Is my bar too high- are they capable of filling these roles? If not, can we win a title without guys filling these roles?

They are freshman there are going to be mistakes. They played a team that will be competiting for a National Championship again. UL has really good guards, and one of those guards led them to the title last year. Their guards are going to make guards look bad sometimes. However the twins especially Andrew battled all game and played one of his best games IMO. If he can play that hard all the time and be aggressive, then UK is in good shape.

We will disagree on the consistency of effort, so I will not belabor that point further.

 

I appreciate that the guys with the ball in there hands most often will make mistakes and those mistakes tend to be magnified. I do not feel like I have seen the progression yet of these guys being champion level guards and the UL game doesn't make me feel better about how they have progressed. I feel that James Young is a better facilitator of offense for this team right now than either Harrison Twin and was in that game. I don't feel like we can win a national title if this remains the case unless we have some dramatic role shifts that may not fit each player's best skill set.

 

I can't wait to see this team on January 8th and see their progression through conference play.

He needs to use some of that time to improve their free throw shooting percentage. When they get into the tournaments and play top teams they will have a difficult time winning if they shoot 50 to 60 percent from the line. And with their type of offense they're going to be going to the line many times.

I think part of their problem is a confidence issue, that is, not being able to make free throws in intense situations in close games. I commented to friends yesterday as we were watching the game that I wouldn't doubt the least that they actually shoot a good percentage when they practice. They just don't do it in actual games. No confidence.

 

:thumb: I agree with you completely. One other thing that imo might help late in a game when and if the opponent has to foul would be to get Polson in the game. Polson can knock down FT's.

Bottom Line is that ALL need to work on FT shooting, missing FT's definitely cost the Mich. St. game, jmo and will most certainly get you beat. No Excuse for shooting to be that poor at the line.

If Kentucky makes it to the national title game, it will be the second-youngest team ever to do that and yet Calipari has put them through a schedule ranked the 18th-toughst in the nation (compared to Louisville’s, which was ranked 150th coming into o this matchup). Kentucky was younger, yes, but it was battle-tested, which helped negate any advantage the Cards had with their experience.

Calipari isn't a fool. He knows tough pre conference games can get a young team to develop better. These games don't matter as much in the grand scheme of the season. Conference games are what makes or breaks you. This team has grown up some in the past month, and the schedule is a major factor.

I enjoyed the game a lot more when I watched the replay this morning. Now on to the SEC. Go Cats!!!!

 

I plan on doing the same thing tonight or tomorrow. I was a nervous wreck the first time around, sitting in a room full of Ohio State fans who didn't care one way or the other about the outcome. Was really happy to see the Cats pull out that quality win.

 

Can't wait to be in attendance for their next game on Jan. 8th.

Let me ask this, was he at any point prior to the game reinstated? I couldn't find a link anywhere saying that he had been reinstated...seemed convenient that when foul trouble mounted in the first half, "Indefinitely" came to a screeching halt.

Couldn't say. I don't even know what sort of suspension it was. Can't imagine he wasn't still practicing. I know I was shocked when he came in the game, but that had more to do with the fact that he never plays anyway. He could have been suspended the entire first 10 games of the season and I wouldn't have noticed the difference.
