October 17, 201312 yr I wouldn't say 'greatest' event I've attended but the most memorable event, for unfortunate reasons, was the 2001 Daytona 500. The Earnhardt crash on the last lap really didn't look that bad. We booked out of there figuring he was ok and we wanted to get out of the mall parking lot. The only way to beat the traffic at the 500 is to stay in Daytona Beach (at the beach), so you're going the opposite direction of 99% of the traffic. Before we made it to our condo it was obvious on the post-race radio program that something bad had happened to Dale. A very sad day indeed.
October 17, 201312 yr Been to many. Hard to pick one. Some of my favorites 1998 south regionals St. Petersburg. It was Ky. Vs Duke. Kentucky was down by 18 and came back to win it. The infamous Chris Weber time out. -I've been to 3 final fours. When the Reds swept the A's - loved the look on Dave Stewarts face. I went to 5 Reds games that year. Opening day, 2 playoffs and 2 world series. Game 7 Lakers over Celtics in LA-- surreal to see the streets lined with cops in riot gear after the game. I was at this as well. 2010 division clincher for the Reds was another great one I was fortunate to see.

It was VERY cold, but just not the freezer bowl? Can anyone confirm the conditions? I left a job knowing I would be going the Super Bowl the following year. The ten grand was enough to make me take the new gig. I told Mrs TAC if the Bengals make it I'm going!

October 17, 201312 yr I'll take mine in a different direction and I'm trying not too sound like a homer. It was either 2002 or 2003 NKYFL Midget Superbowl Red Devils vs. Spartans. The game was played at HHS. It was the last game on the schedule and the game went three overtimes. I remember the custodial staff was trying to have the chearleaders move from the track and the crowd starting chanting. Max Nuesbaum (sp?) ran a zig zag run from the 20 yrd line to score (it was probably a 60 yrd run by the time he finished crossing the field). They needed to go for two to tie and Garrett Geiman broke up a pass to secure the win. A lot of great high school players that are Seniors now on both of those teams. I know it's not a professional or college game but when I read the title of the thread this is what came to mind first.

October 18, 201312 yr Several memories came back as I was thinking about this. Watching my dad, as a child, participate in hog-tying and calf roping events in rodeos. Watching the original Billy Vucovich (sp) run dirt races at the Italian Ball Park in Fresno, CA. His family was friends of my dads. Having season tickets to Indianapolis Indian games when they were Reds affiliate. Saw many of the Big Red Machine in AAA. Volunteering at the Pan Am games in Indy and getting to know the Brazilian soccer team who won in 1989 (?). 25 years of Indy 500's and Season ticket holder to Colts 26 years. Watching my daughter play college soccer. But the most memorable involves my two boys taking me to a Colts / Dolphins playoff game in Miami for my birthday. The boys planned everything including the tailgating before the game. They forgot matches to light the grill and neither would ask a Miami fan for a light, so I had to. We lost the game, but the day with my boys: PRICELESS.
October 18, 201312 yr Miami vs UCLA in 1998. The game was scheduled for September but Hurricane Georges forced a cancellation. Nothing like a game in December when it's 80+ degrees. The breakout game for Edgerrin James as he tallied 299 yards and the Canes knocked the Bruins out of the national title hunt. Wide Right III back in 2000. That was bittersweet as FSU ended up higher in the polls at seasons' end.

October 18, 201312 yr My dad was a huge sports fan and loved to plan vacations around sporting events, so I've been priviledged to see a lot of great things. My personal favorite - Mercer County's 2006 State Football Championship. - 1. Because my son played for M.C. - 2. Because it was the last high school football game I got to see with my dad, and my dad got to see his grandson win a championship. The greatest would be, May 15, 1981 - Lenny Barker's perfect game against Toronto.
October 18, 201312 yr One of the more amazing things I've ever been present for was a random Brewers-Cardinals game in Milwaukee in 2009. Yovani Gallardo and Chris Carpenter both took no-hitters into the 7th inning. It was remarkable. Then both gave up a hit in that inning. Brewers won 1-0 in the bottom of the 10th with two outs. After an error put a man on and an intentional walk moved him to second, a single finally dropped for Milwaukee to score the winner. Also present for the outstanding three OT game between Trinity and Mason County in the quarterfinals of the Sweet 16 in 2004.
