Has Monday Night Football Lost its Luster?

Featured Replies

To a point, I believe that the majority of Sunday night games have been much better, causing MNF to not be watched as much.

By the way.

This coming Sunday (I think) - Peyton and the Broncos at Luck and the Colts.

And MNF is Vikings at Giants...

Monday Night Football lost its marquee spot when it moved to ESPN several years ago. Cable channels like ESPN and NFLN just don't get as many viewers as the major networks. Sunday Night Football is king and the scheduling reflects it as such.

It's lost a lot of it's luster when Sunday Night Football and Thursday Night football came to be. Even before Thursday night football was every week, Sunday Night Football took away some of it's luster.

MNF used to be an event, no longer.

It does not to seem focused around the game any longer, its more about the pregame and the post game.

Thought about this post while sitting at the bar watching the first half...

and saw them advertise Vikings vs. Giants next week WOO HOO. The flex

has been really good for Sunday night.

I love Gruden.

I usually only watch MNF if the Saints, Broncos, Bengals are playing. However, I did watch last night because I was against Andrew Luck in two leagues. I'd imagine most know the outcome of the fantasy game that week by MNF and that determines how many watch as well.

It has. In the "old days" you saw ONLY a game or 2 at 1:00 and a game or 2 at 4:00.

So Monday was a big deal.

Now with the ability to watch any and all games that you wish to watch Monday is simply not that big of a deal. Between the Friday night high school game you go to, the plethora of college games you watch on Saturday , and then the games on Sunday you're mentally tired of football by Monday night.

Heretic.

The weird thing for me, and it shouldn't make a difference, was when ABC lost MNF.

MNF lost it's luster when SNF took over. Anyone remember when TNT had SNF? I remember they were the first network to implement the scores and stats at the bottom of the screen. This was prior to the internet and was great for fantasy football since you didn't have to wait until Monday morning to start calculating your scores.

Still a big number considering it is on cable on a Monday night.
