October 1, 201312 yr Author The only way it makes sense to get rid of BP is if it's a payroll issue. I thought the C Trent thing was terrible (and a true indicator) but I'm about performance first. No way you EVER get ANYONE to come in and replace him defensively and not MANY are going to come close to his offense. The team will be worse if he is gone UNLESS you take that money and put into a stud 3B or LF - and your D will STILL be worse overall. You're looking at it logically, and in some ways, I agree. All I'm saying is if Dusty is gone (which he will be if they lose), it is highly doubtful BP is back (assuming they can find anyone to make a deal for him). If Dusty is back, it is highly likely BP is back. The organization has grown sour on #4 and "they realize the folly in their ways in signing him to that deal".

I rarely disagree with anything you post, but for an $11 million 2B, I have slightly higher expectations than "sufficient" offensively. Yes, he is a great second-baseman, but much of what he brings to the table off the field nullifies some of what he brings positively on it. In my opinion.

Sufficient was probably the wrong way to put it. I meant sufficient based on that $11 million contract. I'm simply of the opinion, if you aren't a cancer in the clubhouse and produce enough to help the team offensively and defensively, be a clown all you want.

Does Dusty have that much clout on the roster? I see Jocketty controlling the roster and if he wants to trade Phillips, Dusty can't stop it.

I'm not advocating for keeping him or not, even though I'm personally not a fan, but I think if Dusty is gone they look for a dance partner and free themselves from his $50 million over the next 4 years.

I'm not sure about the clubhouse. I'm sure he sometimes make it tough to be a teammate. Agreed on the other stuff.

October 2, 201312 yr Dusty needs to be shown the door. His handling of pitchers has to be the worst in the majors and he lacks any intensity or sense of urgency at any time. His teams play with no emotion or heart.
October 2, 201312 yr As annoying as Phillips can be at times to some people, including myself, he will be a big loss if no longer on the team. I believe they are taking a step back without him there, especially at the position. As far as Dusty goes, I think he will be back.
