October 1, 201312 yr While I 100% do NOT agree with it, all signs point to Dusty will be gone by Thursday if the Reds lose tonight. I've heard casual Reds' fans say they are rooting for the Buccos tonight to get just that. I have said consistently, be careful what you ask for. Side-note: sounds like the Big Man loathes Brandon Phillips, so if Dusty is fired this week, I'd but a steak dinner on the fact that Dat Dude gets dealt in the off-season if they can find a willing taker. The window for these Reds may be closing.....

October 1, 201312 yr Author Or opening. Really? No Arroyo, no Choo, about 4 right-handed hitters who will hit .245 and need to hit 7th or 8th (Ludwick, Frazier, Hanigan, and Mesoraco), and perhaps, no Phillips? I LOVE Latos and Cingrani, really like Cueto and Bailey (although I wouldn't be shocked to see him get dealt for money reasons in the offseason), and realize they have some decent pieces, but I don't know how you can feel like they'll be better in 2014.
October 1, 201312 yr When you say all signs point...what signs are you referring too? Just wondering. I'd be fairly upset if they traded Phillips.
October 1, 201312 yr Author When you say all signs point...what signs are you referring too? Just wondering. I'd be fairly upset if they traded Phillips. Conversations over the last few days with both people that work there, as well as people who cover the team daily. The article in Cincinnati Magazine, his shots at the club, coupled with his C.Trent episode and his contract....odds are good if Dusty is gone, then BP is gone.
October 1, 201312 yr Isnt Baker signed through 2014? Im not a Dusty Baker fan by any means, but i think it may be hard firing a guy who has taken the team to the playoffs 3 of the 6 years hes been here. Considering where the Reds were in 08' when Dusty came here, thats going to be hard to get rid of.

October 1, 201312 yr Well it's funny that all we seem to think here is about the subtractions. Surely you don't think Walt will just stand pat. Hard not to trust Walt. And teams win and lose DIRECTLY because of the quality of their pitching staff. Reds led the universe in offensive categories in the Griff/Donkey era and couldn't sniff postseason. i trust Walt.

I trust Walt and Dusty. They've been doing it longer than all of us.
October 1, 201312 yr Off topic, but I need to give LRCW a shout-out. Months ago I said that Pittsburgh would pull their usual el-foldo. He said that would not happen because of their pitching this time around. He was right, I was wrong.
October 1, 201312 yr Dusty is a great guy and great regular season manager. During the playoffs he stinks. But in saying that I don't think they should fire him if they lose tonight. He's done so much for this club that he deserves to stay here through his contract.
October 1, 201312 yr How has he stunk in the playoffs? He didn't get no-hit to start the series. He didn't injure his #1 in the first inning of the series opener. There haven't been many tough decisions considering there is very little depth on the bench and you haven't had every starter healthy yet.

Might be the good luck charm that the Reds need tonight.
October 1, 201312 yr Bob is a no nonsense owner and wants to win more than anything. I don't see Dusty going anywhere with the amount of money the Reds would have to eat but I would be equally shocked if BP was still here when the winter meettings are over. He crossed the line when he was bashing the ownership and his contract. This very well could be Brandon's last game as a Red.
