September 30, 201313 yr Team not fundamentally sound at the plate it seemed at times... 3rd worse team BA with risp and 2 outs...batting .203 worst 0-2 pitch hitting team in NL and 4th worse hitting with a 1-2 count, overall 3 worse team hitting when behind in the count
September 30, 201313 yr A lot of things/people can be blamed & some of them have been mentioned. Injuries certainly come to mind, particularly those belonging to Ludwick, Cueto, & Marshall. I'm not happy with how the season ended up, but it could have been worse. I like our chances with Cuteo on the hill & GT starting the thread.

September 30, 201313 yr Need Hats for Bats!!! Hopefully they go for the live chicken in Pittsburgh Tuesday, and not KFC
September 30, 201313 yr Lets see, the best 2 hole hitter in the majors bats 3rd. The best power hitter bats 5th. The cleanup hitter should be batting 5th or 6th. The 3rd baseman has a swing only his mother could love. A shortstop who was maybe one of the worst offensive starters in the MLB for 4 months. That is why the Reds stink. Also there is a manager in the dugout who doesn't have the brass to make any major decisions. That about covers it.
September 30, 201313 yr Getslow At the risk of sounding messianic and bordering on blasphemy... You go right ahead and put all that hate on me. Place all your anger and rage on my shoulders and I will carry it for you.
September 30, 201313 yr LRCW... And it's on all of them. The GM didn't help the manager. The manager didn't help the club. And the club didn't help themselves. Yes, there were some success stories like Votto's OBP and BA, Bruce had a good year. Chapman was still pretty darn good. Cingrani has shown he can do it at this level. However, as a whole, there's plenty of blame to go around.
September 30, 201313 yr I think the question is fairly easy: not enough reliable bats. Now, for Cincinnati to play postseason baseball three out of four years is quite an achievement so assigning "blame" seems a bit ludicrous in the face of considering who might deserve "credit". That said, the Reds just didn't have enough production offensively -- at key moments -- to be a great team. There seemed to have been an awful lot of losses where the team that beat them didn't have to score very many to get the win. Votto got on base a lot, but it's unfortunate that he walked so much because opposing pitchers simply didn't have to fear the batters on either side of him.

However, as a whole, there's plenty of blame to go around. If you look at the numbers as a whole, I agree, it's hard to lay the blame at the foot of one person. Everybody's had a hand in it. From fielding errors, to mental lapses running the bases, to sticking with a set lineup out of sheer loyalty...there were situations everywhere that led to losses. But, usually there's got to be an answer man. And that's usually the skipper.

Why are Cincinnati fans always so quick to jump ship? I mean here we are with the season not even over yet, and the playoffs about to start, and we are already playing the blame game. What happens if they get hot and win the series? This club has hired one of the best GM's around, and they have shown they are committed to winning baseball games. Just for those who have followed the Reds, check out the opening day lineups the 3 years before Jocketty (05-07). Since then we have gotten to see Scott Rolen, Brandon Phillips, Votto, etc etc. And whether you like Dusty or not would you rather have Dave Miley, Jerry Narron, or Pete Mackanin? So i for one say thank you to the Reds for what they have given us the last couple years.
