Reds - Who is to Blame?

Featured Replies

Walt Jockety has probably never uttered the words "I'm pat". I trust he'll make a couple moves.

One may be the hitting coach.

He has to.

I'm not sure how much influence hitting coaches have on MLB players, honestly. I know those guys know a ton about hitting mechanics and the approach at the plate but how much do MLB guys listen to them? Pure speculation, but Votto seems to me like a guy that may not take constructive criticism too well.

No, cause those simply arent true either.

I wonder if we say their performance sucked. Like Luddy going 0 for the weekend sucks. How's that?

Approved

I like Handoza for Hanigan....

BTW, I'd argue that Bruce is the most consistent hitter on the team. Every year, you know exactly what you're getting almost to a tee.

For him to be this, you have to say his consistency is his inconsistency. Like Crash said, too many streaks (both good and bad) for me to consider him consistent.

I understand what you guys are saying, but look at his numbers the last 3-4 years....If that isn't the model of consistency, I don't know what is.

With Bruce you know you're getting somewhere between .260-.270 avg, 30-35 HRs, 95-100 RBI....

At the end of the day, you are correct. I was just saying he doesn't seem consistent because he gets so hot and cold throughout a season.

True. The bad part is...you never know when you're going to get them. (And, no, you never know with anyone...but, I think you understand my point).

It simply depends if you're looking at it day by day or from season to season.

Day to day, he's probably one of the more inconsistent hitters in the league. Season to season, one of the most consistent. Semantics.

Agreed.

Talk about taking things out of context. Yikes. Not nearly what I meant or said.

Easy killer.

Take off the last part then. You get the point. I'm tired of people labeling fans that don't like Dusty/Marvin just b/c they have had a few good regular seasons with them. Good for them. They both still suck. Now both teams should go get a better coach/manager b/c their rosters are far better and the leaders are too bad to get to a better spot.

That's the issue. The bolded simply isn't accurate.

How affect did Dusty's inability to manage impact Votto's power numbers or ability to drive in runs? BP's 3 RBI's in September? Cozart's dreadful start? Cueto, Marshall, Broxton...etc's injuries? The Reds had zero depth and as Clyde stated the other day, with an average pitching staff it's a 75 win team. That doesn't scream talented roster.

What affect does Marvin's inability to coach impact Dalton's accuracy? The lack of a second receiver? Whatever other personnel issue's they have or had?

So you're saying their rosters aren't better than the Dunn/Kearns days and or the Akili Smith/Dave Klingler days?

Good grief, man. You make some serious jumps. I didn't say squat about those rosters.

But since you brought it up, of course these rosters are better. Which proves my point. Talent prevails...always. Get more talent and they will compete for titles.

You said it wasn't true that the rosters were far better but I made the jump?

They have the talent outside of Dalton now they need better coaches and managers.

Far better than 7-10 years ago, yes. Far better than where the Reds finished and where the Bengals will finish, no chance.
