October 3, 201312 yr He pitched 9 in game 163. I'll take his innings pitched in this years over Chapman's the last two years. You asked how many innings Price pitched in the Wild Card round. Answer was 0...
October 3, 201312 yr Everyone thinks trades are so easy. Like hey trade BP b/c he is a cancer and ripped ownership and Votto. Who trades for him? Trade Votto he has a bad contract and get prospects. He has a no trade clause and everyone else knows his contract is bad. Go get a bat at the trade deadline. Which bat? Which prospects were you giving up? Not that easy. Walt made both of his big trade "deadline" deals at the beginning of the seasons picking up Latos for 4 prospects and Choo for Stubbs and prospects. They don't have a ton of prospects left and both of those trades worked out great just not for the playoffs. The biggest thing they did was value Chapman as a closer when a ton of guys can close and not see what he could do as a closer. If Chapman was a starter last year would Leake have started game 4? If he was a starter this year would a guy making his 3rd start in 3 months start the WC game? Possibly but maybe not.
October 3, 201312 yr You asked how many innings Price pitched in the Wild Card round. Answer was 0... Touche but you understood the point.
October 3, 201312 yr Several have talked about moving Chapman to a starter, it should have already happened. How many more wins would Chapman have accounted for over this past season had he been a starter vs the other pitchers that did start? Possibly less possibly way more. What I think is true though is they would have been able to win games with the lead in the 9th inning.
October 3, 201312 yr Possibly less possibly way more. What I think is true though is they would have been able to win games with the lead in the 9th inning. Starting pitching was NOT the problem!!!
October 3, 201312 yr Of course, they're Cincy sports fans. Thanks for weighing in Mr. Ludwick ! I'm tired of hearing that trite crap, that's just not true. Cincinnati fans (as a whole) are very solid and supportive. I travel and listen to sports talk all over the country. I've been to 28 different baseball stadiums, I've been to about 12 NFL stadiums. Go watch a game in Yankee Stadium, Fenway, (like I did a couple weeks ago) Citizens Bank, Camden Yards, or Wrigley, and get back to me. You'll never hear the same junk at PBS or GABP as you would there, or on the local talk shows.
October 3, 201312 yr Starting pitching was NOT the problem!!! It wasn't in the WC game? It wasn't in games 4 and 5 of the Divisional round last year? No matter how many letters you capitalize it was A problem in those 3 games and their best arm sat out there watching waiting for a chance to come into the game to record the last 3 outs of a game with the lead.
October 3, 201312 yr You're telling me the blame falls on the managing for not moving Chapman to the rotation when we had 6 starters with an ERA under 4? Ok, that makes sense. The fact of the matter is we had no hitting down the stretch whatsoever. Who deserves the blame? The front office in my opinion. This team was practically dying for them to pickup a bat or a reliever at the deadline. What do they do? Watch the Pirates pickup a bunch of guys and prepare for the playoffs. On the waiver wire, none the less.
October 3, 201312 yr On the waiver wire, none the less. The only thing they did wrong IMO was not block Byrd. What would they have done with Morneau?
October 3, 201312 yr The only thing they did wrong IMO was not block Byrd. What would they have done with Morneau? Nothing. I don't like Morneau. I feel for him, but he's never gotten back to his MVP form. I was just making a comment on how the Pirates bolstered their line-up.

No matter how many letters you capitalize it was A problem in those 3 games and their best arm sat out there watching waiting for a chance to come into the game to record the last 3 outs of a game with the lead. Considering Cueto went down last year and Latos wasn't available this year, it wasn't a problem. Not to mention that Cueto missed nearly half his starts, if not more. If you fix the offense there is not WC game because you are division champs.

October 3, 201312 yr Someone explain why: 1. Votto, who has taken the 1992 Frank Thomas approach of not swinging at anything unless the pitch is perfect but w/out the power, isn't batting second with his 450 OBP? 2. Bruce ever was moved from the clean up spot where he was on fire. 3. If you aren't going to bat Votto second, you don't move Cozart back to #2 since he was actually hitting well at the end of the year? 4. That team looked like it didn't care, lacked urgency, and lacked passion and there were no shake-ups in July, and I'm sure there won't be now. Votto won't be traded b/c he doesn't have to be, and his contract is lethal. BP may be traded, but for who? They'll need to replace, at best, a gold glove 2B. At worst, you replace a guy w/ 20+ HR/100 RBI potential who plays Gold Glove defense. How do you shake the clubhouse up? Different manager is all that I can think of.
October 3, 201312 yr When visiting teams say your fans stink, your fans stink. True. I'm just trying to figure out why the fans are asked to go crazy for the team and lay it all out there, when the players won't do that. # last 6 games...
